I totally understand that. It took me a few months before I was comfortable carrying with one in the chamber.

It took me about two days to get over that. I had a eureka moment where I realized I cant shoot a guy without a round in the chamber. When seconds matter you might not be able to cycle the slide to load a round in time. The BG has one chambered I'm sure.

Congrats on a successful outing. :anamatedbanana

I used to say I'd never carry an unloaded gun. However, if Open Carry ever passed, I might carry an Airsoft or cheap unloaded gun on my belt; but a fully loaded Glock IWB concealed.

I've always been uncomfortable when one is NOT chambered. There is a chunk of floor missing at the Pasadena Police Dept from when an officer was going to clean his "unloaded" gun .... If I ALWAYS have one chambered, I'll never think one isn't.

Unless you would have needed it. Did you at least have a loaded mag on you somewhere, but just not in the gun?

Don't worry, it get's easier.

I got over the jitters of carrying one-in-the-pipe by carrying around the house for weeks prior to getting my plastic. By the time my plastic arrived, I was pretty much like the Annoyed Man...I was grinning from ear to ear and immediately strapped on some weaponry and went to the store.

The important thing to remember is just to be super careful when you holster and unholster, and keep the booger-hook off the trigger. After a while it gets instinctive.

I was nervous about carrying with one in he pipe. I started after about a week or so.
Just keep your nose picker off the trigger! One thing I am now is a habitual chamber checker. I almost feel guilty practicing dry firing even after multiple chamber checks.

Better to feel guilty than have an AD. :fire

I am a habitual chamber checker too, I'm always afraid one is NOT in there where it is supposed to be.
Seriously, I make darn sure the machine is ready; If I need the pump, I don't want to have to say "TIME OUT" I need time to prime the pump first.

I keep one in the pipe, but have a Fobus holster that protects the trigger completely. The holster is it's own safety. I can take the holster off and on without having to unholster the weapon. The only time I unholster the weapon is when I am going to shoot it.

God forbid I ever need it, it's ready to go.

Just an update.

Still haven't done a true Wally Walk yet, as outlined in another thread on this forum.

I have carried into Wally mart, target, HEB, and various other locations, multiple times and locations. I've gone to lunch with my friends in the People's Republic of Austin. No one realized I was carrying.

Yes, my magazine has been fully loaded. Not one in the chamber, still not comfortable with that yet.

I'm starting to lose the paranoia of thinking people are watching me, or know I am carrying.

So in general, I'm feeling more comfortable about carrying.

^This.

Then i Found my self frowning in pain when trying to get into a BMW 335 while carrying a full size 1911, getting jabbed in all kinds of places until i figured out the seat was raised too high... : (
