CHL and cleaning

Careful! The 380 pocket pistols are very popular due to their small size but nobody is shooting them very much due to their high ammo cost. Carrying often without cleaning WILL result in lint collecting around the hammer area. This could jam the hammer and cause a misfire. Not shooting it enough while carrying it often will result in lint collecting around the hammer area. Be careful!

Regular cleaning after each shooting within the first week. Due to work schedule. If I hit the range on Sunday, my firearms are cleaned by the next Sat.
My CC Pistol will get a nice coat of Rem Oil and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth each night before it goes to sleep in the safe. Packing a Pistol like your underware for a while is corrosive.

We wipe the lint off pretty regular, but, CLEAN them? Are you kidding?

Let's not forget to clean those Mags once in a while.
Just don't use oil.

On days that I fire my main carry weapon I always pack it up in my range bag for the return trip home. I always have an unfired and clean carry piece with me. I will not carry any weapon that has been fired before it gets a complete cleaning.

I belive that the practice of carrying a weapon that has been fired and not cleaned is just asking for trouble. If you are ever in a situation of being accused of firing your weapon, how do you prove that you in fact have not, if the weapon has recently been fired?

Lint and normal carry crud is another thing. My main carry is a blue steel pistol and I wipe it down everyday, break it down once a week.

I clean my pistols when I get around to it. I expect them to function even when they're dirty. I've run my PX4G over 5000 rounds without cleaning and intended to clean it but forgot about it before a state IDPA match. It ran like a champ and when I cleaned it afterward, it was filthy! I'd say I clean my pistols around 1000 rounds or so, including my carry guns, but if the mood moves me, I'll clean them sooner.

I field strip and clean them all after each range trip, or field trip. Although I know that firearms are made to withstand a whole lot of nasties, I was raised to "never bed down a wet horse, or put away a dirty firearm. My carry guns get inspected for crud and dust bunnies often, and get stripped for relubing at least every 2-3 weeks. Range guns can be put away with as much oil on them as you want, but carry guns should never be over lubed/oiled.... just enough to insure reliable operation of the bearing surfaces and whatever you need to protect the finish. Excess lubricants attract a whole lot of dirt, grime, dust and lint, possibly leading to malfunctions... then again, too little lube may result in firearm malfunction. I stopped carrying blued handguns a couple of years ago due to the problem of protecting the finish. A lot depends on how you carry, and where you carry, when considering how often your handgun needs attention. My workday carry conditions require that I inspect/clean/re-lube at least everey 2-3 weeks, if not more often....working in "the great outdoors" has a way of determining the schedule.

I clean my Glock once a year whether it needs it or not.

That's more often than I clean my cell phone.

I know a guy who throws his Glock in the dishwasher whenever he realizes he's fired close to five thousand rounds through it... as much as I hate Glocks, thats pretty cool.

I clean them every time I shoot them. I don't sleep very well if there is a dirty gun in the house. I tend to over oil and getting them dry enough to carry and trust them is the challenge for me. I finally resorted to compressed air, that works pretty good.

Go online, order a dose of OCD, and clean after every range trip like the rest of us have to....

After it has been fired AND I get bored, yes I have a Glock. I do like the dishwasher idea. When I was in the Army we took our M2 & M60 into a very hot shower dried it and oiled it really good, the shower got them really clean.

I generally hit the range once a week, sometimes every other week.
I take my range guns, 2 or 3 each time to go along with my carry gun.
I shoot everything in my carry weapon magazine, and everything in the backup magazine.
That keeps the Hornady XTP ammo turned over and fresh. Who needs stale ammo anyway?
Sometimes I will run an extra 100 through it of the target stuff, just to make sure I am still on top of the game with the little beast. (Colt 45 defender)
Then I shoot the guns I brought to play with. Usually 400-600 rounds, sometimes less, but not often.
When I get home, everything gets cleaned. Guns, brass, and me.
I love the smell of Ed's Red, and Butch's Bore shine.
I always sleep good after a range trip, saying my prayers and thanking God for Sam Colt and Mr. Browning.
I love to hear the tumbler running in the night as I peacefully sleep knowing that my ammunition and my guns perform well, and that I can shoot as good as I did 40 years ago.
The ammunition gets replaced during the week, as I abhore TV and most of today's trash programming.
Instead, I prefer the clicky click of the press, the tinging sound of the brass as it falls from the case feeder and the distinct thumping rattle of the completed cartridge falling into the plastic catch bin.
This afternoon's loading session was 200 rounds of 45 ACP and 300 rounds of 44 mag, all loaded with my own cast lead on the Lee Loadmaster.

I clean my weapons pretty regularly.

The carry XD and the nightstand XD, everytime I go to the range.

Sometimes, I clean them just to clean them. It's kind of relaxing. As someone else posted earlier....I don't watch TV. Kind of odd for a 25 yr old, huh? I'll generally put a comedy in the DVD player, set up the little table, and kill time cleaning.


As far as the question posed, getting my CHL didn't alter my cleaning schedule any at all. I was already pretty anal about my guns staying clean and oiled.
