Here's my latest revolver safety project.

Actually someone does or did make a thumb safety for S&W type revolvers. Can't remember the name of the company but they may still be around. They also made a magnectic ring that worked with a lock in the grip so that only when you gripped the revolver with the ring hand, would it allow you to fire it. The thumb safety involves a modification to the cylinder release so that it can be pushed up a bit locking the firing mechanism or cylinder. I thought it might be a good idea for a house gun revolver that had been converted to double action only. Anyone who picked it up, that wasn't supposed to, probably would not figure out the safety unless they had seen the device before and even then, they probably wouldn't discover it until they actually tried to fire the revolver. It would not child proof a revolver, but it would certainly make it harder to figure out and discharge if it got into a little one's hands despite your best efforts. I know if your try to idiot proof something, they will only build a better idiot, but every little bit helps.

But John Moses Browning put a safety on the first, best, and only worthwhile semi-auto ever made, so if the M1911 has a safety then by God ALL semi-auto pistols need a safety.
