I would say that "effective consent" is the same as "informed consent," meaning that the person who invited you in did so in the full knowledge that you have a CHL and are carrying a gun. Personally, I would want it in writing, including the stipulation that the other party is aware of my status and is giving me permission to enter anyway.

But that ain't going to happen because, even if I got such a ridiculous invitation (how the heck does he know I have a CHL?), I wouldn't give my money to a business that wouldn't extend that same invitation to each and every CHL holder.

On the other hand, you can cut up your CHL, mail it in to DPS, and then go ahead and carry past their stupid sign...

I understand not patronizing a place that posts a 30.06 sign because that is their choice. However, is posting a 51% sign a businesses choice? Aren't they required to post one if they meet the requirements? I don't do places like that anymore, but rarely ever did anyway. I can understand someone changing their habits after getting a CHL, but if a 51% establishment doesn't have a choice then maybe we shouldn't malign them as much or at all.

+1 in fact there's a "joint" just south of town that is a beer joint in every sense of the word, wood floor, juke box, pool tables, 51% and all...they also make the best hamburgers n fries in the area. I often take my wife there for lunch, as do many of the business folks in town. I believe the owner is a CHL holder herself but she has no choice about having to have the sign posted. I have to laugh though, the sign is on the inside wall where it's fairly dark and if there's a group at one of the pool tables just inside the door you'd have to walk between them and the wall for it to be obvious...one has to really look close to be able to see it, even when looking.

My wife and I walked up to a car dealership and I noticed a (now obsolete) 4413(29ee) sign high in the corner of a window next to the showroom door. This is one of those dealerships where the salesmen all hang out on the front steps like a bunch of vultures and just wait to pounce.

Pointing to the sign, I turned and loudly announced, while leading my bride away, she wanted that Kia SUV, that I was not doing business with any business who discriminated against law abiding citizens. In the ensuing fracas one of the salesmen told me that the sign didn't mean anything at all, another told me that they only put it up to keep the bad guys out, and the supposed manager: A) Told me that he had a CHL and was carrying; and B) He was inviting me in; and C) The sign was posted because the city of Plano made them do it and I couldn't hold it against them.

Note that never once did I state I had a CHL or that I was carrying, just that they discriminated against law abiding citizens and that I would not do business with them. They even stood next my car, in such a way that it was almost impossible to move without hitting one, and tried to stop me from leaving, at which time I told them I was calling the police.

Of course I answered each and every point, gave each a CHL card, and left anyway, following up with paper letters and email.

Never been back, don't know if the sign is still there, don't care, bought a Chevy.
