The Don Humes are very good and my wife has one for her carry. The only issue is that extra band of leather at the top add's about 1/4 inch. All in all, the leather combined will add 1/2 inch to your weapon. She uses it when walking the dogs, but for daily carry all day long she does not like the bulk of the leather.
I have multiple Comp-Tac holsters. The Minotaur is my favorite and have it on every day. It is not a holster for someone that wants to slip it on and off all the time. However, the 2 o'clock is great for this purpose. I find it is easy to conceal a Glock 26 under a golf shirt. I am not what you would call svelt, so if you carry an extra keg around like me it still is good.

This is a bit unconventional, but I tried using my desantis pocket holster for iwb, after a recommendation off another forum, as a way to holster when running a quick errand without rigging up with my dual clip iwb holster. I actually found tucking the G26 with pocket holster in between belt and pants at the two o'clock position with shirt out works pretty good. YMMV

Something like the comp-tac 2-oclock, or the comp-tac infidel might be more useful overall. I have used the Infidel (actually, it earlier counterpart, the Shirttucker) for years with a Glock 30. It is excellent for on/off situations you describe but is VERY discreet and easy to wear. I even use it at IDPA matches. Very fast to deploy if not tucked in and not bad when it is.
Comp-tac is not the only one to make such a thing but theirs have very good quality and excellent service.

I use the Clip-Draw a lot, in such circumstances. I can carry my XD45 comfortably, sitting or standing, or quickly remove it or replace it. The XD series is particularly well suited to this type of holster-less carry, because the grip safety makes it unlikely that any sort of obstruction that might possibly make its way inside the trigger guard could cause a negligent discharge.
I have been carrying this way for about 3 years, and it is my favorite and most comfortable way to carry. If I need to remove it, I simply slip it out and into my Maxpedition FatBoy, and then replace it easily in my waistband, when appropriate.

If you want it even more on-body, there are any number of concealment vests out there. Just take the vest off when you get to work, and put it back on when you leave.

I've worn my MTAC at work before. It's not bad, once you get used to wearing a holster at all.
Its definitely easier to slide a gun into a holster than an IWB holster into you pants, especially in a vehicle.
