I used to be the same way until i found this one at BPS. It fits my "country/redneck" style. Im sure it still screams gun to CHLers but thats ok with me. They still cant see it and they are not the ones that I am worried about.

I've also changed back to the summer attire ..( got outta' the motorcycle boots, levi jeans & long sleeves ) .. WEATHER dictated ... !
HAWAIIAN shirts, kakhi shorts AND, changed from the XD .45 w/Galco leather, back to tha' Kahr CW40 w/Kydex holster ! (( I feel, part Californian AND part Texan !! ))
Same sweat running down my sides, but I feel lighter and cooler, AND if need be... I can run faster with my sneaks on !

Only thing I've been carrying recently is my P380 in a pocket holster. Summer is hot. The G30sf is to big to conceal well in my summer attire (shorts and polo shirts) IMO.

I'm thinking about picking up a kimber UCII again though.

No matter what you carry be comfortable with it.

My daily is my XD40 sub which I love.
But, I am jealous!

Kimber guys: Please let us know how often you have: Mechanical problems requiring gunsmith attention / FTF/FTE and so on.

I'm not being critical of 1911's per se.

Having been a 1911 owner (70/80's vintage Colt Commander, if I remember correctly) I had a slew of problems, so I eventually switched to a Glock - problems with it: zero after thousands of rounds.

Bowing in the direction of beauty, 1911's are beautiful, but dependable and problem free...?

I'm very much hoping that technology being what is, the newest crop of 1911's will be just as dependable as Glocks, XD's and other new style semi-autos.

If it turns out that the newest crop of 1911's are just as dependable I will buy a one.

I know its not a Kimber but I have a SA Mil-Spec that has been "upgraded" in a few areas and have not had any FTF/FTEs with it.

Upgrades are new trigger, flat mainspring housing, beavertail and hammer.

Only problem I had with my SA Loaded was my safety plunger tube came loose. Replaced with Ed Brown plunger tube and did the work myself. No problem since. Mods I have done were GI plug and shorty guide rod to replace the FLGR and Wolff 18lb GR spring.

So far the only problem I've had out of this gun was a single failure to load the next round, and it was magazine related.

That's what ya get sometimes when you find a "deal" on mags at the pawn shop. Oh well.

Same. My UCII has only ever had 2 issues, both premature lockbacks. The second time it did it, I realized it was the same magazine as the first time.
Removed that mag from the rotation, and it has never happened since.

That's what I get for buying cheap noname 10rd mags at a gun show. They were only ever intended for range use anyways. Carry mags are exclusively Kimber or Wilson Combat.

I've had 3 Kimbers (3", 4", and 5") over the last 6 or 7 years. I've never had an issue that required gunsmith attention. The only two problems I encountered were extractor tension out of spec on the 4" (fixed myself with tensioning tool and trigger pull scale from Brownell's) and a broken recoil spring guide assembly (my fault - I didn't replace the recoil spring assembly at the recommended interval.)

Some folks might need to take the extractor tension situation to a gunsmith, but I'm a pretty handy guy around the shop. Purchasing the right tools cost less than a single gunsmith visit, and I'm now set for life with the equipment to check and adjust this situation on all my 1911's.

I started out with a Taurus Millennium Pro PT145, then switched to a Colt Lightweight Commander. That's my usually carry, though lately I've been carrying a new S&W M&P .40 that I converted to .375 Sig with a drop-in barrel.

No problems with either of our Kimbers. They've been very reliable. Had a broken MIM part in a Taurus PT1911 which we fixed by substituting a spare Kimber part, and no problems with that pistol since then. My dad's old 1943 vintage Ithaca 1911A1 is still running on all WW2 vintage parts, without any problems whatsoever. My Springfield Loaded has functioned without problems either, although my son did a nice trigger job on it, and it is better than ever. The only 1911 I ever had any kind of chronic issues with was a Sig GSR Stainless Carry I used to own. That one was a treacherous and fickle mistress, and I got rid of it.

For the most part, a 1911 is like any other gun, in that you want to run some rounds through it and break it in before you start carrying it. As someone who owns both an alloy framed and a steel framed versions, the alloy framed guns are a lot easier to carry. For instance, an alloy framed 5" Kimber Custom CDP II weighs 31 oz with an empty magazine. An all steel 5" Springfield Loaded weighs 40 oz with an empty magazine. But for ease of carry, it is hard to beat a 25 oz 3" Kimber Ultra Carry II. Even so, I do carry that all steel 5" Springfield (with a full 8 round mag, +1, + at least one backup mag), and in the right holster with a real gun belt, it carries just fine. The main thing is that even the full sized all steel 1911s are so flat and thin that they actually conceal very well.

And they shoot like champs.

No problems on my Kimber TLE2. I have a mis-feed issue related to one of the Wilson mags I have. Problem is, I'm always so happy to be shooting, I forget to mark which one it is.

Oddly enough, the mag that I had problems with was a Wilson Combat mag....7 rounder. I disassembled, and the thing has been modified by someone....whoever pawned it, I'm assuming.

It's okay though, I'm going throw it in the "to be traded" pile. The pile consists of a few scopes, a handful of mags, a couple of holsters I don't have pistols for anymore, knives, so on and so forth. I'll go to the pawnshop one day and unload all of it.
