Thanks to everyone. It wasn't my intention to raise anyone's hackles. I get a lot of insight from this forum and I fit the same profile as most of y'all. That is: I'm conservative, personally responsible, and I carry because I can... not because I'm afraid. Leaving my carry in the gun safe in my car is okay by me. Pepper spray is always allowed anyway. I don't make enough money to be a test case. Thanks folks. Carry on.

This is not an armchair opinion, this is what my beloved Momma (R.I.P) taught me long before many of you were even a gleam in a s**** donor's eye and it is still true today.

Finally. A good reason to carry concealed.

I tend to agree that if the case was to be up to a reasonable police department and a reasonable DA and a reasonable Judge. But some of these people are Democrats. and there are a lot os Chucky Rosenthals and wacky judges out there. I wouldn't be so anxous to put my freedom on the blow of the wind and a judges sanity.. there are a lot of judges and Police that sit to the left of the lawyers and LEOs that frequent this forum and they don't seem to fear being wrong.
Just my thoughts.

Warning: If you want read only what an authority has to say, don't read this comment.
I'm attending My son's graduation this Saturday at Reed Arena
in College Station and have planned to just leave it in the car.
After reading all this, I'm still just going to leave it in the car.
That's what I did in Austin last Saturday for the reasons you gave. Left it in the car.

Please remember when going to places like this to look for 30.06 signs also.

30.06 would hold no water at a civic center, the issue in question is solely based upon the event being a school function.

I beg to differ.
yes, Civic Center would be city owned (normally and I assume in this case as well)
But an organization who has rented the space can sign it as 30.06 if they so choose.
Example - Pasadena Convention Center is well, owned by City of Pasadena,
And when doing normal city functions, it is ok to carry there and not signed 30.06.
But when the Gun show is there, and this weekend is one by the way, the gun show puts out 30.06 signs and there are officers at the door pointing the sign out and asking plainly, to remove any concealed weapons, that they will zip tie open or through the breech to make them "safe".

This is quite incorrect.
A property does not stop being 'government owned' when they lease it out. The government still owns it, and 30.06 is still invalid.
Gun shows quite often improperly post 30.06 signs.
Another head-scratcher to think about: Gun shows let you unload and zip-tie your weapon, and then re-holster it, as you mentioned above.
Where in the statutes does it make a difference between a loaded, or unloaded, and zip-tied, firearm? The answer is nowhere.
So either the 30.06 is invalid or everyone inside with a concealed, zip-tied gun is in violation of it.
According to the statutes, a concealed handgun is a concealed handgun, no matter if it's loaded, unloaded, zip-tied, sealed in carbonite, etc.
Doesn't stop them from trying to post it still, however, and you'd probably take the ride, but the signs still hold no water on government property.
People love to post signs for any and everything they can. Doesn't mean what they're posting is legit, or even has any bite.
It's times like these that I wish I had millions of dollars to blow. I'd be a test case all day long for these obvious things.

However, I don't have the $$ therefore I must follow what it says and when there is a LEO there enforcing this 30.06 sign, then I have to follow it or take a chance to wear the pretty silver bracelets, which I never have and hopefully never will.

What it says is 30.06 doesn't apply if the property is government owned, and not prohibited by 46.03 or 46.035.

The issue is that the officers are not there to enforce the 30.06 sign. They are there to enforce the policies of the gun show promoter.
At the same Pasadena show, those officers will not allow you to enter with a loaded mag or loose rounds. Please tell me which statute they are enforcing on that.
