I am confused a bit...
there seems to be some engraving on the right side of the frame under "Government Model"
also, there seems to be some issues on the slide...it says COLTS and not COLT and is also missing the stamp on the rear right side by the hammer of the COLT Horse.

I know thats the biggest reason I wanted to do something to it. I keep it oiled for now.

Ahhh...thats cool work with the serial number...what would concern me is the slide and the markings on it. I would take it to a person who knows their gun history and have them look at it.

WoW!, after seeing the pics, that's a beauty!
It's got Character!
Me, I wouldn't do anything other than preserve it and cherish it.

Just a casual observation, but those markings on the right side of the frame don't look to me like any common engraving I've ever seen. It appears more to be some kind of writing.......maybe Indian or Arabic???
Pure speculation on my part: Could this be a "contract gun" issued to a foreign government, police agency, etc many years ago? It may be worth investigating further.
Garcia946, do you know the provenance of the pistol?
That writing realllllyyyyyyyy has me curious! If it were mine, I'd be tempted to write to Colt and inquire about it.

He photochopped the serial number so no one could read it. Smart move, if you ask me.
