If you like the P226... I would get the Sig P239. It is an awesome gun. When it came out it was called a compact - but there are much smaller compacts and sub-compacts out there now. However, you really can't beat the P239 (especially in a 357 Sig).Pawpaw wrote:I have a P239 in 9mm. It's a great concealable pistol and it is far more accurate than this shooter. Since it also has the same manual of arms as your P226, it would be a great choice for you.
Side note... I bought a Kimber Ultra CDP II and was very surprised to discover it is a bit smaller than the 239.

Not that I'm trying to change your mind, but isn't decocking a learned habit? If you use a DA/SA pistol, you should be practicing decocked. Every time I empty the magazine and load a new one, immediately after I charge the weapon, I decock. You have to do this to train shooting the DA, or you'll be caught by surprise and possibly miss that first shot badly. Since the first shot is the most important, you should really be practicing DA all the time, at least with the reload of every magazine.mr surveyor wrote:I tend to prefer the compact models myself...Kimber Compact, Sig P239 (40 cal), Kahr CW9, S&W Airweight, Kel-Tec pistols. As I get older I have found a preference for DA for carry, so the Kimber doesn't see much action, and as much as I love the Sig (DA/SA) I realize that it would take the deliberate action of hitting the decocker in the aftermath of a defensive use (same as hitting the safety on the 1911) to make it "safe" to either re-holster or place on the ground. So, my preference has moved to the smooth DA action of the Kahr. Otherwise, in the listed requirements of the OP (decocker), I would opt for the P239.

or, I could send my 239 in to be converted to DAO and eliminate the concern altogether

Re: guns,,what else ?
I went to the range yesterday with my P226 and my recently-purchase P239. When I came home, the P239 became my EDC. I've gone out several times now with the P239 and an extra magazine in my bellyband holster, wearing nothing but a "normal" pair of shorts and t-shirt. No one has said anything, and I've gotten no strange looks. Checking in the mirror and with my wife, you cannot tell that I'm carrying unless you already know I am and know exactly where to look. Even then it's not obvious.
Yes, I've dropped from 30 rounds on body to 14, but those are fourteen powerful rounds. At handgun barrel lengths the .357 Sig is comparable to the .357 Magnum. The gun is amazing. It has slightly more recoil than my P226, which is a less powerful caliber (9mm) in a longer barrel and a heavier gun.
I plan on going to IDPA matches, beginning in October. I'll be shooting the P226, because it will cost me less to shoot. And I'll carry the P226 in the winter, when I can wear an extra layer of shirt or coat.
What I really like is the two guns are so similar that they really feel the same when shooting. So, practicing with either one is practicing with both. I think, if you really like your P226, you will love the P239. It's a great gun. Very accurate, very easy to shoot, surprisingly little recoil.

As others have said, look at the single stack SIGs if you want something like your P226. I haven't fired a P239 but I have a P6 (German police surplus P225) as a car gun.
I was thinking the same thing, but maybe cnovel's keyboard has a 3-round burst function the rest of ours' don't.pbwalker wrote:,
