As a counterpoint to that thread, try this:
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=37799&hilit=238" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I had one for about 3 weeks and had good time to carry it some and run some ammo through it.

Here are the pros:

Great, decent quality gun. The bottom-of the line (nitron) version (what I had) doesn't seem as nicely crafted and fitted as the top-of-the-line Rainbow Titanium or Copperhead or Equinox version I had a chance to handle. So spend some extra cash and get the better version. I also wonder if Academy somehow doesn't get the "A" grade units - maybe a discussion for another thread.

It is a locked breech design - rare on the .380. Very functional and makes for a lighter weapon.

It has an excellent trigger for such a small piece.

It is SURPRISINGLY accurate.

With standard ammo it is quite manageable.

It is quite compact and easy to conceal.

I almost got 100% resale price on it when I sold it. Pocket .380s are hot items.

Here are the cons: (my opinions of course)

It's a cocked-and-locked Condition ONE carry. I'm ok with Condition one carry IWB or any holster that covers the trigger and allows you to handle the weapon without fumbling. In-pocket condition one carry is a bit scary even with a pocket holster that covers the trigger (a must) it is still easy to bump the safety off while digging into your pocket or purse for it and the trigger is unforgiving once it hits condition zero. It is even possible for the safety to get bumped off while it's in your pocket so be very aware and exercise the utmost caution on condition one pocket carry.

Once you fill it up with "the right stuff" +P ammo it turns into a little hand beater and although I can manage a pretty good pounding 50 rds of real defensive ammo it about all I could take. I did that more than once and I think that a steady diet of +P ammo in that lite little guy will diminish it's lifespan of it as well as your thumb.

Once you get to a barrel length of 2.7 inches on a .380 you are not packing very much whollupom. Even with the nastiest Buffalo Bore ammo http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/2010 ... ore90.html you are barely going to get supersonic with a 90gr bullet keeping you somewhere under 250ft/lbs so you better get really accurate. I graduated from the Sig 238 to a Kahr PM9 and will always regard that decision as and EXTREMELY good one. A PM9 is barely any bigger and it's 9mm. Also, I am way more comfortable with the revolver type long deliberate double action trigger on the PM9 - especially in pocket carry.

Mine did NOT come with a spare mag. YUCK! Those little suckers are pricey as well. But hear the Mustang mags will fit.

Good luck on your choice! Hope this helps.

Great information, Mark, thanks!!!

I did forget to mention that it is the Rainbow Titanium that I have on layaway. I saw it in the case and I could not pass it up. I think it's really sweet looking. The gentleman who sold it to me said that people either love them or hate them. I'm so excited. I don't know if I can wait until December to get it. :coolgleamA:

RPB,

The one I got has the SIGLITE Night Sites. I don't know much about those and I didn't compare it to one of the other .380s. Are the ones in this picture better than the SIGLITEs?

Oh man those are my favorite! I can attest first hand that the Rainbow Titanium finish is drool resistant

Is the slide solid titanium like the Taurus, or just plated with titanium?

The Advantage sights aren't yet Glow sights, (they intend to make night sights later, but are concentrating on rifle/shotgun sights now) I stopped using glowing sights a long time ago. But these allow real fast sight picture (make a triangle) in most any light unless you are in a cave (warning, don't fire in a cave)

Another reason I like the advantage tacticals is that the angles/no-snag, except when you want to, like racking the slide in a 1-handed drill (that's why they are "Tactical" sights).

But I'm sure the sights you got are good too. I used glowing night sights in the 1980s, but they are too slow for my poor old eyes now.

Wait...You got to see the Copperhead? Where? That's the one my wife wants, and I've never seen it anywhere.

TLynnHughes wrote: Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have a confession to make. I put one on layaway last night. It was a total impulse purchase (I really must stay out of The Arms Room). But I don't regret it. It does sound like the majority of the ones that posted here are quite happy with theirs. The link provided above does paint a bit of a different picture. I guess I'll just have to shoot one and find out.

Thanks again!!!! :woohoo

I don't know the answer to that question. Anyone? The Sig sight refers to it as a "Rainbow Titanium finish." :confused5

I just got a chance to drool on it again today and I was mistaken. It was not the Copperhead it was the "Liberty" version and it was purdy

And who knows it may have been the copperhead version I handled a week or so ago. They turn them over pretty fast. It was at Shiloh Shooting range in Houston.
