There's nothing wrong with training on your own, but I wouldn't let that stop you from coming out. Just forget about the clock and work on doing all the steps safely. As a bonus, you'll have a safety officer right there with you to help you--just let them know you are a new shooter.Venus Pax wrote:I don't believe that I'll be ready for it. If you like, I'd be happy to loan you my Glock 19. It's much like jbirds1210's Glock 17, but a little smaller--a fraction of an inch in lengh of grip and about an inch of slide. You can even work with both to see which size you like better. I also bet you could find someone with PSC-IDPA that would loan you an XD. Guns and holsters can get expensive. It is really great to be able to try before you buy.Venus Pax wrote:I still need to get a gun that falls within the rules. Right now, I have a .380 and a .38 special. I'm not as fond of my .38 special, since the trigger is more difficult to pull & I'm not as accurate.
I'm considering a Springfield Armory 9mm. My dad owns one and I really like that gun. I used it to qualify for my CHL. I find it very easy to use.

Okay, in the spirit of the Godfather movies, I'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse. Come to PSC next Sunday around 3:00 p.m. and Marc and I will set up a few simple props and work with you for a couple of hours. We can cover everything you'll be doing in a match and can give you some one-on-one coaching. Who knows, PPM may even join us.Venus Pax wrote:Thanks so much, guys. I may go. I'll talk to dh & see what he's got going on that day.
I do plan to train some though.

I have to agree it's better to GO and walk through and shoot than it is to go watch or train before hand. I went to watch a match first and wound up wishing I had brought my pistol/ammo. I've typically run through about 100 rounds per match and have learned alot already. If I can just refrain from getting trigger happy half way through a stage, I'd do much better. Must learn control............
