I've owned and carried most of the pocket nines... The Kahr PM9 is the best of the bunch in my opinion and the only real choice that I've actually been able to carry in my slacks pocket as opposed to the pocket of a pair of cargo shorts. The Walther PPS is a close second only because it's overall size and weight was just large enough that it wouldn't work in my slacks pockets as easily as the Kahr. The PPS otherwise had much to recommend it such as a decent trigger and good combination of weight and size that made it easy to shoot well. A distant 3rd place would go to the Taurus 709... still bigger than the PM9 and a horrid trigger, but competitively priced and reliable. Still the Taurus is more of IWB than a pocket pistol for me when I tried it. The Keltec PF9 just isn't as close on any count. It's light, but more comparable in overall size to the Kahr CW9 than the PM9. The Keltec is the least expensive and it can be reliable, but the fit, finish and trigger leave a lot to be desired. If money were secondary, the PM9 gets the nod. If price is primary, I'd seriously consider the Taurus before the Keltec, and choose a CW9 before either. My two cents based on my experience.

They only bad thing I can say about the PM9 being so small was the fact that the grip was so small that the only way I could hold it was with the pinky extension magazines. I imagine it would be hard to control well without it. At that point the overall height of the gun is almost as big as the K9 or P9. Of course the overall length was still smaller but the overall height of the gun from the bottom of the pinky extension to the top of the slide would not be much if any difference then the K9 or P9.

My voter is the Taurus Slim (PT709). Very good quality for the price. If you had to use it the police will take into evidence and it will not much good after you get it back. The Taurus makes more since than a $500-$600 gun. They are reliable and Taurus stands behind their products from what I have seen.

Wait for the new Sig P290.....

It's pretty much the PM9 vs. everybody else in the catagory you describe. There are others in the group, but none compare to the Kahr's quality. Now for the bad part, they are hard to find for less than $600.

Yeah, me too. Shame it looks like it is going to cost at least as much as the Kahr, but I'm a big SIG fan so if reviews are good I'm sure I'll get one eventually. Until then I'll be fine with my 642.

I would think a pocket gun would be very useful...but I might wait till the CHL comes to see for sure before buying.

GA, I agree with you 100%. Your not gonna hit anything over 5 feet away, especially in the eye or ear. I refer to this as my up close and personal gun. I would prefer not to have this encounter but as a backup I'm comfortable with the .22 lr.

I have the Kahr MK9 Elite...all stainless version of the K9 Kahr. It is a little on the heavy side as a pocket gun, but I do carry it in a pocket holster from time to time. I would agree with others though..I use the extended mag with the pinky extension.

It is an expensive gun, but it is a pleasure to shoot on a regular basis. I have a composite .380 that I almost never shoot because the lack of weight makes it an uncomfortable gun to shoot, and I am MUCH more accurate with the Kahr at the range. Kahr also makes a .380, but the 9mm is small enough that I would rather carry the extra stopping power.

When it comes to a "pocket gun" weight seems to be an issue, and I like heavier metal guns. My Ruger is feather light, but I feel better with my 9mm Kahr "pound of protection".

My everyday carrys are in 9mm. However it is not of a pocket-carry persuasion.

I just could wrap my head around the pocket semi-autos I was checking out in the shops. No way, not for me. But, I would need atleast one pocket-carry firearm.

My revolvers ended up in that role. My 442 is always on or never far from me, no matter what else I am carrying.

If you must stay in semi-auto and bigger bore is necessary...the Kahr PM line pretty much is it. There's a couple others out there, but even the .45ACP is impressively small. Then again I think the clip size is 5+1 from memory...at that point revolver starts looking a bit nicer if you don't mind the weight or crazy kick at the range.

I have and like Ruger LCP with Hunter Wallet Holster and I am pleased with both.
