I wouldn't fire it off in Grapevine.
I hear golf balls work.

My wife killed a cobra in our yard with a hoe when we lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The kids came running into the house screaming that there was a cobra in the yard. Like a momma lion, my wife charged out of the house directly to the gardner's shed and grabbed a hoe. She then waited until the cobra's mouth was full of the frog it had hunted into the yard and killed. The problem was that when my wife struck at the snake with the hoe, she missed. Then it was a race. My wife was trying to pull the hoe out of the ground and the cobra was trying to spit out the dead frog so it could defend itself. I am happy to report that my wife won that particular race.
The lesson of the story is that one can dispatch a snake with a hoe, but it's highly recommended to be careful not to miss on the first try.

What's wrong with an air rifle? Mostly silent, just as varmint deadly in "yard range".

Was just going to say this. They make suppressed air rifles now. No stamp required. Some have velocities approaching a .22 round.

I believe it may be illegal to discharge those inside or city limits, too.
