The only reason I would go against this is because it would require the state to spend 2.5 billion+ dollars and they would have to make 50 new laws. And then it would take at least 5 to 10 years of planning.
Now how are they going to do this when they can't even find the money to keep our schools running?

Yep, thats the real rub in all of this...

Why would a State Park facility have this system in place, and other State (non-park) facilties not practice it???

But then again I believe the Daughters of the Republic of Texas are a private entity, and they are the benefactors/caretakers of the Alamo...If I misunderstand their charter, then I stand to be corrected; but that seems to be a reason...I would find it utterly absurd if the "Daughters" were anti-gun...I doubt it, but there may be some slant there I may not be seeing...

But, I'm not for disarming everywhere you may have to visit in the first place...

There just are too many places where people like us go during small portions of our day, where we either have to decide before we set out to carry or not...For fear and the risk of having firearms stolen or lost because of these restrictive and infringing requirements...

And although I do understand what One Eyed Fatman is saying, I don't think it would be that bad...I'm of the opinion that the State wastes more money than it knows what to do with sometimes...

But hey, thats just me...

Interesting poll, but I had to vote against the way it was worded. Here's my take.

1. If it is a place citizens don't have to go (such as a shopping mall or particular business), then I think it is very adequate to leave your weapon elsewhere (car/home) if you choose to go there.

2. If it is a place where a citizen may be compelled to go (such as a courthouse, post office or your WORKPLACE) that doesn't allow carry, then I would go for a law that compels then to allow it to be kept inside of locked vehicles.

Where I think we have the biggest problem is with employers that have policies that go BEYOND state law and disallow guns in cars in their parking lots and can fire employees for violations. That is what I would like to see addressed. I hear OK has passed such a law recently.

I don't think I could go for a law that compells someone that doesn't want to have guns in their place put together some type of secure storage and the procedures for getting your gun in and out of it. Even if they did, I don't think I'd make use of it for fear of getting my gun stolen or shot by someone that doen't have inherently safe gun hanndling practices.
