I like wilson 47d's. if you are running an alumunim frame 1911, make sure you run mags with a skirted follower. un-skirted followers will dive forward after the last round and ding the frame.

I have Chip Mccormick shooting star mags and they work well. Also have some metal form mags I got from CDNN for like $8 a pop and they are good as well.

I know, huh? You can thank JMB's obsession with the concept of "controlled-feed" for that
I've completed your assigned readings. Now I just feel conflicted. Do I "cheat" with the Wilson magazines, or do I stick with the controlled feeding that JMB intended?

I do feel obligated to get some of the Checkmates and just see what runs best in my gun.

I had noticed the differences in my followers before, but hadn't given much thought to them. I pulled them out and compared - each is different:

Some more homework...
More good reading!

My stock Kimber mag has 100 rounds through it at this point, with 5 FTF. On the other hand my Wilson Combat mag has 200 rounds through it, with only 1 FTF. Once I get the gun through the break-in period, I'll have to make sure that my carry ammo functions through the Wilson mags as well. :fire

Just emailed checkmate Regarding an LE acct.

8 rounders with hybrid feed lips and a base pad are the way to go?

I prefer the 7 rounders with hybrid feed lips for reliability, although 1911Tuner says they have an 8 rounder that works just fine (Ask them for the Tuner Approved follower, I think they call it the checkmate follower). 1911Tuner know his stuff and if he says it works, then it works. I tend to use no base pad on the ones in my guns and my reloads have base pads to facilitate faster reloads.

Is this some super secret squirrel kit that I have to get by a phone call and a wink or can this be done by ordering through the site? The gear head in me LOVES this thread.

I am running 8 rounder Wilsons right now and I have a 10 rounder to test out.

I talked to a gunsmith who used Wilson bodies with Chip McCormick internals, while I haven't tried it personally, it is an interesting concept.
