Right now I'm leaning towards the Eclipse Pro II

You know what I think of Kimbers. If you want a steel frame, Commander size, nights, then you cannot beat it in my book. That is what I had as a 2nd primary. I did carry it & liked it.
I dont think you will need any trigger work on it out of the box. That gun outshoots me as is & a 4 to 4.5lb trigger pull is not too heavy for a PD weapon. If you are going to use it for competition only, different story.
If I could have a wish on Kimbers out of the box it would be the beaver tail.
That is the gun that converted tote 9 to daily carry. He came down for a couple of days & carried it all day. Went home w/ it & my backup holster.
You wont be disappointed.

Amen on the Kimber Eclips Pro. II. I haven't owned many pistols, nor
have I shot that many, but after shooting and carring my Kimber I can't
think of any other gun I'd rather have. Thanks Longtooth for introducing me to a 1911.

Not a chance! Not because it's a Taurus, but because I think it's one ugly interpretation of a 1911. It's blocky and just wasn't comfortable.

Right now it seems to be narrowed down to the Kimber Eclips Pro II or the Raptor Pro II.

Those are some great choices, but honestly I'm not too keen on that whole Schwartz safety on my 1911. Granted, my first 1911 (Kimber Team Match II) has one on there and it has been working so far, but it's just more things to break. I personally like the 70 series non FPS 1911s. It is up to you because it is your pistol. Hehe.

I totally agree with you, KinnyLee and you fist post on this topic was right on, the Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail is exactly what I wanted. The spec that I posted match that gun exactly. The only issue was that I was having some difficulty locating one so I was going to settle for one of the Kimbers.

Carter's Country now has one on order for me. Their distributer has 11 of them in stock and one will be in my hands sometime next week.

Let's see how it stacks up:

1. 1911! nothing else! = yes

2. Commander-ish length = yes

3. Full size grip = yes

4. Steel or Stainless (prefer stainless). No alloys. Regular steel is easier to refinish when needed and stainless is well stainless. = yes

5. Prefer a gun with a bushing, but not a deal breaker. = yes

6. Would like some bells and whistles. I don't want to have to do much more than have the MSH bobtailed and a trigger job. = yes Already bobbed.

7. Readily available. = available and readily enough.

8. Most important is a $1000 budget. May be able to fudge a bit but not a lot. = yes

Thanks all for the opinions. I'll post pics when I get it in my hands.
