The 26 is great but why not go with the 27? Same size but in .40, my G27 goes everywhere with me.

Any glock in a standard caliber will be great.

Rest of my guns are 9mm and .380... don't want to introduce another caliber.

The best thing I can say about my 26 is that it has been utterly reliable. The fact that it feels as if I'm concealing a small brick is why I don't choose to carry it concealed. For concealed carry, I use something flatter: KahrP45.

Can't go wrong with a Glock. I have a Glock 27 (same size, different caliber) in my EDC rotation. You cant make the grip longer with Pearce magazine extensions to replace the standard G26 magazine base plate or put an appropriate grip extension onto a G19 mag and use that in the G26. Lots of ways to make the grip fit you better.

But for a little bigger and a little more capacity out of the box, try a Smith & Wesson M&P9c. Had one for a while. Decided to get rid of it and keep my G27 (personal preference). But the M&P is a great gun too. Holds two more rounds and the pinky extension mag base plate comes standard.

There are some concerns about .40 caliber Glocks with not fully supported chambers. That isn't a problem with 9mm Glocks, or at least not more than other comparable handguns. Part of that may be thicker brass for 9mm that's more tolerant of the chamber design.

I love my 26. as amatter of fact though I find it a littler harder to hide then a 5" 1911. but I do carry it when its warmer out. as amatter of fact i just swaped out to carring it again.
I find Its easer to shoot then a 19 but hey ymmv.

I only have three thoughts on my friend's Glock 26. First, without the magazine extension, my pinky hangs off a bit much. Second, I really wish the slide from his 17 would fit on the frame from his 26 (it goes on, but the gun won't cycle correctly and it took us a while to work out how to separate the slide from the frame). Third, it shoots pretty good. I really prefer it with a grip extension, but my friend likes it better without.

I have larger hands and while the pinky doesnt fit on the gun with factory flush mag it is not an issue to shoot and control the gun. If the gun fits your hand and you like the way it feels then go for it.

Another thumbs up to a Glock... any Glock. They all are dependable as a weapon can be. The price is reasonable as well. The question is... G26 or G19? I would go with the one that fit my hand the best and second, I would think about conceal-ability for the method you carry. I have a G27 that I can shoot quite accurately at self defense ranges. If something is more than 40-50 feet away... I plan to run like the wind...LOL. Seriously though... carry a weapon you can shoot well. Like you said... shot placement means a lot.

Now that is serious concealed-carry.

My user name is derived from the Glocks I carried when I registered here. I now have a G32 that I've added into the rotation. The 26 or 27 is what I usually carry when I have to tuck my shirt in over the gun. It's very easy to conceal for me. I'm 6' 180 lbs.

I love the G26. I shoot it every bit as well as my 19 and I don't use any extenders. I simply tuck my pinky under the bottom of the magazine. I don't even notice anymore really.

Well, I wear Taurus PT709 is IWB in the pajama bottoms/sleeping shorts, but I prefer higher capacity when I wake up, the Taurus is just so I have something undercover and a home invader doesn't see me reach for the Glock if I get a surprise visitor while in bed. Took a week or so to get over the increased lumpiness of the Taurus over a small .380 though.

...you didn't mention the extra mag in your pocket...and your chl in your back pocket...and the light nearby...remember when they laughed at us??? Home invasions are happening more and more...3+ perps...it takes some planning...good article in Handguns Feb/Mar about preparing...

...if you go with the 26, a coupla hicap mags nearby would be great...if you need more than the original mag...you may need LOTS more...

This is an ammo issue not an issue with any Glocks chambered for .40. Glock went after reliable feeding and extraction in their design of the chamber. If you use factory ammo you will not have an issue with a Glock .40. If you shoot reloads or +P ammo the user should look into an after market barrel for more support. Careful of voiding your warranty though while using any ammo that is not factory issue.
