The medallions on the grips look like they might say "Taurus" on them.Keith B wrote:Looks to be a model 629 to me. The .44 special rounds will be harder to find than the .44 mag. Might be worth a little more if everything is really tight and scratches are just real shallow and can be buffed.

Although this turns out to be a Taurus, I actually own a Model 29 "Classic" with a full length ejector shroud.Keith B wrote:It could be a Model 29, but the full length ejector shroud throws me off on that.

Taurus revolvers do have a good reputation, so if you're just looking for a good revolver I'd still try to make a deal.....
I wouldn't pay S&W prices for it though.

Re: gun Value S&W 44 special
Thanks. This one's a keeper. I bought it NIB in about 1996. It has a 5" barrel, which is kind of an unusual length, and I think they only made this version of it for a couple of years. No trigger lock, of course. I'm not given to naming my guns under normal circumstances, but somehow along the way, this one picked up the nickname of "Big Poppa." I'll never sell it.WildBill wrote:Very nice looking gun.The Annoyed Man wrote:Although this turns out to be a Taurus, I actually own a Model 29 "Classic" with a full length ejector shroud.Keith B wrote:It could be a Model 29, but the full length ejector shroud throws me off on that.
Edited to add: To the OP, if you can get a price you can live with, Taurus IS a reputable brand, and a solidly made .44 Special pistol with a good stout SD load rivals a .45 ACP in capability. I wouldn't turn down this gun if the price is right if I were you...unless you really have your heart set on a S&W.

Re: gun Value S&W 44 special
well I was not really in the market for the gun but if I was gonna get a S&W for 250-300 I would have picked it up, I dont think he will go down to a price I would pay for it now. guess it does not hurt to make him an offer though... I mean it is paydayThe Annoyed Man wrote:Thanks. This one's a keeper. I bought it NIB in about 1996. Edit to add, what is it worth being a tauras? 250 to much?
