IANAL, but I'll bet that wouldn't be constitutional. Banks pretty much make up their own rules when it comes to why and when they check your ID. Your option is to change banks, just like you did.

I stopped at Lowes the other day to pick up something i had ordered online, as as usual it wasn't at the front counter. The CSR paged someone to go to the aisle and pick it up. A manager was walking buy, and I grabbed him and told if that everytime I order online, the product is never at the front desk and I always end up waiting for it to be pulled. I was super polite (even more thn usual), and he quickly said "That is just not right" and corrected the situation. He then walked me to a checkout and asked for ID. I pulled out my wallet, and had no DL, so just gave him my CHL. He then said, "you are a mighty calm guy for soembody that is carrying a gun."

Although I was dismayed that he said it out loud, I was glad I had represented our community well.

Wells Fargo, on the other hand, was happy to take TX DL & CHL as my two forms of ID when I fired Chase and switched my accounts to W.F.

one thing I will point out and not to say that this fits your situation, I wouldnt know because I was not there and have not worked for chase, but having worked a few places that do applications that require "two forms of ID" alot of them didnt give you the option to document two different state issued ID's so in those cases a TX DL or any other state issued ID and any Credit / Debit card with a visa / master card logo was the normal two forms of ID

It would be convenient when two "photo" ID's are required. I went through an experience with a check written by my renter. I presented it to the bank teller and initially they refused to cash it with only a TDL. I stood my ground all the way up to the bank manager and they finally cashed it. Then they demanded my right thumb print which was pretty stupid because I was wearing a compression glove and arm wrap and it was quite obvious I couldn't comply. I offered my nose print. I don't take checks any more. Sorry to highjack.

Been a while since I posted....

I used mine last year when in New Orleans and they wanted my ID to get into the Casino. After staring at it for a very long time and asking where I got it, the lady finally let me through. She said that it must just be the new Texas DL's that she hadn't seen yet. She never actually noticed it was a CHL (no I was not carrying as I was not sure if it was legal in a casino, but I was with a police officer friend of mine who was carrying! )

That is the only time I have ever used it as an ID, I wasn't too worried about being outed since I didn't bring a gun to NOLA because of my travel partner.

I woulda' paid money to witness that exchange.

I just used my CHl at Walgreens to pick up meds. The guy looked it over for a few minutes then wrote it down.

I act as Taxi driver for my in-laws alot, and often have to take them to BAMC or one of the other military bases, one day I reach into my wallet grab what I thought was my DL to show to the gate dude, he looks at my FIL's id, then looks at mine, says "uh, cool, but do you have your pistola?" "What?" "Your gun, are you carrying?" "NO!!!" he hands me my CHL back, as I'm totally red realizing what I had done, he says "hey, it's cool, it's a fine ID, but I had to ask once I saw it. You do have your dl?" "YES!" I was so embarrassed. that was the one place I was trying not to let know, I've gone out of my way to drop my gun off back home when the in-laws have done the "oh can we stop by the base?" "uhhh....."

I offer my CHL as ID everywhere I'm asked for ID. Sometimes it's accepted - sometimes not. But, it's my little advocacy-group-of-one action to promote the CHL program and familiarize as many people with the license as possible. It's my view that the larger the Texas CHL constituency becomes, the better all CHLers will be.

I think the same thing, but strangely, in the two months that I've had a CHL, I haven't been in a situation where I needed to show any ID.

Has anyone ever tried to use their CHL to get on a plane? I wonder if that flags you for some additional screening.

I went to a Rangers game near the start of the season this year with my father. My DL had recently expired, and I had been carrying the paper copy the DPS gives you until your new one arrives. Long story short I only brought in the insert from my wallet, WITHOUT the paper DL, so I had to show my expired DL to the guy selling beers (yes I tend to carry around my expired DL card with the new paper one until I get the new card in the mail). He told me he couldn't take it, so I showed him my CHL, to which he said he also couldn't accept. My dad ended up having to come over and buy our beers while I stood a good ways away, as if I was a minor...

I used mine every time I was asked for ID on a recent trip from Houston to NC. I gave it to TSA at the airport both going and returning. They did not even bat an eye at it. The four other times I had to show it no problem at all except one lady wanted my DL not my CHL while I was ordering drinks at the bar. I told her I could not understand her because her accent was so heavy and asked her manager to come over. I told him if it is good enough to get me on that plane it sure is good enough to accept for an adult beverage purchase... All went well after that.

What's actually hysterical about this entire discussion is that our own DPS doesn't recognize our CHL as a primary form of identification. It falls in the supporting category and must be accompanied by at least one other supporting document along with the secondary document ( birth certificate ) in order to get a DL.

That's what I think is ridiculous. I've been printed, background run, and all the other hoopla we go through and it's not even recognized on par with my DL?

...I've used mine at a bank to cash a customer's check..."two forms of ID, please"...I gave them my TX ID card..."this is from the same place, sir, I must have a different kind"...CHL tendered..."thank you, Sir...here's your money"...you don't have to be smart to work in a bank...
