I have similar wording in my companies handbook. I carry concealed, don't talk about it, but not asking for permission as I already have that from the State of Texas.

My employer has a similar notation in the employee manual. I carry, they know I carry. It's not a big issue. It's an authorized weapon (by the State of Texas), it's not illegal and it's only dangerous if I need it to be.
Criteria is met. I would suggest keep it well concealed and say nothing. Offer to take your co-workers and supervisor to the range. Spreading knowledge is the best way to rid ourselves of things like this.

Hey Grizz44! Now, you're just taunting me. I call a 5 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. ;-)

It sounds boiler plate.

It leaves interpretation open for management.
The only interpretation that matters is theirs.

If you want clarification you have to ask.

I would not ask because of the possibility of verbal notice.

If it's a national company I think the likelihood of a negative response is higher.
If it's a Texas company you might have a better chance.

Bottom line is you know the management and can judge what the response might be better than I can.
I would keep it concealed and not make an issue of it.

If you carry and are discovered, you might lose your job. If you don't and something happens, you won't be as capable of protecting yourself. I think that decision can only be made by taking into account your own personal situation. For example, losing a job might not be as big a deal for a young single guy than it would be for a man with a family to feed.

Brian
I hear where you're coming from, but I would reply: "On the other hand, the death of an unarmed employee with a family to feed might be a bigger deal than the death of a young single guy with no dependents." ..... ....or something to that effect.

To the OP: what would be the consequences of just not signing the document?

Also, since there is no specific mention of CHL or MPA, if a parking lot bill passes, you would be specifically protected under those two statutes from any consequences, since they would effectively override any employment policies vis-a-vis the parking lots. So if the bill passes, it will be irrelevant whether you signed it or not, since you can't sign away a right. That's why this bill is so important. This bill specifically makes your weapon legal in the parking lot. The company cannot make it illegal.

As far as SIA's advice, he's kinda sorta right, but untimately, whatever choice you make is the legitimate one—as you are the one who would have to bear the burden of the consequences if caught.

It's not dangerous because you have control of it and carrying it legally licensed.

OP, good luck with the opinions your getting, when you get found out and fired please resurect this thread and let me know how ya did with that "rlol" The state specifically states that employer/employee relations are NOT covered by any provision of law under sub chapter H in the employment relationship nor are there any laws in place that state your employer must allow or post 30:06 signage. so get caught become employmentally challenged. I know I work with one of the worlds largest firearm users(owners) and we aren't allowed to carry except under specific conditions.

My opinion is that this is a poorly written employee manual. I am sure that intent is to forbid the possession of guns on company property. If you carry or bring a weapon on the premises, it is at your own risk. IANAL

Obviously, I am not the OP, but I don't think that it would matter either way, but IANAL. I think it's like the fine print on the back of a parking lot receipt that says that they aren't responsible ...

I think this hangs on the question "authorized by who?".

Authorized by the company / management? It's a company policy handbook after all.

Or authorized by the state.

My first thought / interpretation was for management authorization. Which in that case, if you're "unauthorized", since Texas is at-will, you can be fired immediately.

Signing such a document was a condition of employment at my company. However, that didn't occur for me until I had been there a few years. When I first started working there they did not have a weapons policy. They even used to have a 30.06 sign posted and it had been removed before I started working there. There still is not 30.06 sign, but they implemented a weapons policy in the handbook and had all current employees sign a similar document that also authorizes vehicle searches. If one didn't sign they would have been shown the door. We really don't know for sure since everyone signed it.
