In a lawsuit against the Grammy Award-winning LaBelle, he said three of her bodyguards attacked him for no reason. The singer has countersued, saying King was drunk and hurling racial slurs.
Why do some people always go there......

I see the ubiquitous accusations of racism as being, ultimately, racism. If, as has been said, "Profanity is the last refuge of the truly ignorant." then accusations of racism are a bastion for the bullies of the world to retreat into.
In my opinion, not only should the bodyguards be arrested, tried, and convicted, but LaBell, or whatever her name is (who is she anyway?) should share in the blame.

. The cadet's attorney should have seen this coming and played the race card first. Racism is most definitely not a one way street!

Let's assume for the sake of argument that this is true (I don't believe it is), that would come under the heading of "fighting words." The effect of having spoken "fighting words" is that it diminishes your defense in the use of force and/or deadly force.
However, it does
not justify use of force and/or deadly force on the part of the other party.
In other words, if I call you a poopy-head, and you attack me, and I defend myself with a pistol, my defense to prosecution for using a pistol in self-defense is diminished because I started it all by calling you a name. However, my calling you a name does not justify your attacking me in response.
So at the end of the day, even if the cadet did use racial epithets, it doesn't
legally justify what they did to him. They are supposed to be adult enough to restrain themselves.

edit: redacted post due to rules regarding off topic discussion.
Edit 2: I think I'm safe in merely saying that racism NOT being a one way street, with regards to the legal system is an absolute joke concerning hate crimes.

My son is an University of Houston Army ROTC graduate. Not longer after his transfer to U of H he felt compelled to get a CHL. Maybe not all, but most of (inner city) Houston one should use good situational awareness to the extreme.
Not stepping into the racism discussion (reminder I'm AD). However, nothing gets me hotter than a loud, obnoxious drunk in military uniform. A disgrace to the uniform (what it represents) & poor use in judgement. Nevertheless, certainly agree with the fact no one deserves a beating for foul language, whether it be direct or indirect.

And I still don't remember who Patti LaBell is or why she needs security.
She was popular during the disco era for a suggestive song--
Lady Marmalade. This song had a chorus with the line, "
Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soi?" Since, I have not heard much about her. I am guessing she is on the night club circuit.
My question is, what right did the police have in calling West Point? If you or I get into trouble, do the police regularly call our employers?

Ok, Thank you for helping me out with Lady Marmalade. Some French girls I knew just hated that song, but I though it was pretty cute at the time.
Your question is however very interesting. I am assuming someone at the police department decided on their own to be mean, or this is some sort of rule they have about men in uniform, who get in trouble. (I forgot, was he in uniform) One would suspect it was one of the officers who did the investigation, but that is just a wild guess. (they have both been reassigned)
It is interesting that the two eye witness airport traffic guards who came forward have been laid off by the airport.
Maybe there will be some justice in the end. Thank heaven for security cameras.

Patti La Belle, the star who I still don't really remember, keeps trying to stay in the news. Now in New York and now sued for attacking an 18 month old baby (with water)

Screaming obscenities at a toddler and her mother, and throwing water on them, and then nearly attacking them (held back by her guards), yep this woman has lost what little was left of her mind. Time to hang it up and retire to a warm sunny place where she can be attended to with all the care she can pay for. Perhaps a little time on a beach will cool her off. Of course had this been they way this went down with my kids I might have called the cops on her tail fearing that she was going to do more than throw water and insults.
