Another thought - I have found FS posts before using Google. If others do that and find the forum, and meet a member to buy in person, there is a good possibility to introduce them to what we have.

Limiting sales to contributing members is a great idea to stop this from becoming another Texas gun trading site. Maybe the hurdle should be more than 45 posts we have now. Maybe it should be 250 posts and six months of membership. But I don't see what benefit to members to restrict who we can sell to.

If someone has a CHL, I have no problem selling to them, even if they're not a Chatty Cathy. On the other hand, if they can't show a Texas CHL, I won't sell to them, even if they joined 4 years ago and have thousands of posts. Even if they're police or military. No CHL = no sale. That's my choice, but I don't feel the need to deny other members the right to make their own choice.

If they don't show you a CHL then don't sell to them.
By insisting on seeing a CHL you are
exercising care to ensure you are not selling to the wrong person.
Get the buyers CHL number and keep in for your records just in case
Also remember Federal law you can't sell to a resident of another state
Be sure your buyer is a Texas resident don't accept a Texas
out of state CHL or a Chl issued by another state

Considering the buyer is the one on the hook if the gun is stolen or was used in a crime, maybe it's a good idea not to buy unless the seller can show a CHL and lets you record the number for your records just in case.

Texas Gun Trader suggests using a bill of sale (http://texasguntrader.com/billofsale.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). It's important that both the buyer and seller agree to the details of the transaction, including whether there's a record of the sale, before meeting. If I was privately selling a gun and whipped out a bill of sale for some people, they would balk at writing something down on paper. That doesn't mean they're criminals, just that some folks are very specific that "private" means "private". Doesn't obligate me to sell a gun to them either.

My self, I have been on this site for a while, but have relatively few posts. I do a lot of reading but seldom comment.

I agree it should be the seller's choice if they sell to a junior member, no matter whether the offer is posted in the FS thread, or sent by PM, email, or phone.
