Call the police NOW... The first to call is the complainant, the person that is contacted due to that call is IMHO and exsperance treated as the bad guy, at least on initial contact.
For the reasons listed by others, later contact with this person, if he calls police first with a man with a gun, knife threatened me... Wll you be backed up by people in the shop? Probable , but that is later.. Maybe a ride in a police car later.
I hold no illusions that the police are there to protect anyone, but they are there to enforce the law afterwords, and take great reports.
I'm happy enough if they can proactively stop a threat, there is just not many of them, and and that's not there fault, just is.... They can not be every where at once.

You may have a point. When I was a kid I watched Justice League of America on Saturday mornings, along with Looney Tunes and the Three Stooges.
Kids today watch shows that teach about materialism, how to get over on their teachers and other adults, and how to be narcissistic.
Justice League taught me about virtue, telling the truth, overcoming what appear to be impossible odds, and the American Way. Looney Tunes taught me that might doesn't always make right, and the Three Stooges...well, they just made me laugh.

I'm 6'7" and 300+lbs. I'm by no means a small guy. I've read several posts that mention disparity in size as a factor in making the decision to go to code red.
Size is like any other thing, it can work for or against you, according to how you use it. I've known several guys your size. One of my friends is a former middle linebacker for the San Diego Chargers. His younger brother was an All American center at Northern Arizona State. Another friend is a former defensive end for the New England Patriots. They have all experienced what you said—an idiot starting something with them because they were huge and the other guy was trying to impress everyone with how "badass" he was. But also, my friends all have pretty mellow personalities, and most people see them as big gentle teddy bears. In fact, lots of people feel very safe around them, because these are all guys who know now to restrain themselves, but who also know how to unleash hades on anyone who wants to make life hard on them or their loved ones. You've never really had your butt handed to you until it gets handed to you by somebody who gets paid large sums of cash money to deal in violence for the entertainment of the masses.
What you, as a large man have to understand and live with, is that your size can be very intimidating to "normal" sized people, if you are expressing any kind of anger. That intimidation can be useful if the situation calls for it, but it can also escalate a situation well beyond whatever you intended, simply because you scared someone worse than you intended.
TAM,
I'm aware that my size can intimidate. And I've used it to my advantage more times than I can think of, sometimes not even conciously thinking of it till it's over with.
It's just something that you learn to do. But usually it's to keep issues from escalating. I'm very quiet and easy going for the most part. My wife calls me her teddy bear too. But as recently as a month or so ago, I've "puffed up" (intentionally making myself look as large as I can) to make someone who's on the verge of making the decision of engaging me back down. Kids love me, they think of me as playground equipment to climb on. I hadn't thought much about my size working against me much until recently while I was reading these threads. I rarely worry that I've scared someone worse than I've intended because if I've been pushed far enough to blow, then I did intend to scare them that much.

Funny! She has a fusion and it had the factory 17inch Michelin pilots on it but they were running a deal on Pirelli so we got those. $330 because only the backs needed to be replaced instead of $530 Michelin's. Well see how they go, Michelin's have always been good tires but pricey. We gave them a try, these are a 45,000 mile tire while the Michelin's are supposed to be 50,000.

Seems like you handled the encounter pretty well. You got in front of your girl, you used decisive body language, and you were calculating what was going to happen next. It went your way this time (and his since he did not catch a bullet).
As far as calling the cops...I can see a reason for creating a record of the event, especially if he gets to thinking about what else you might have been carrying and decides to file a complaint saying you were brandishing. You weren't, of course, but it would still cause you headaches once the police run your name and find out you have a CHL. He may know that a lot of people who carry EDC knives also carry EDC guns.
Glad it ended well.

They call it Road Rage. Many people have problems controlling rage because it immediately rasises its ugly head and prevents logical thought. It leads them down paths that no sane person will follow and its intimadating to be a victim to someone that is beyond rational thought.
I've always been large and in school always had people wanting to start fights. Being larger than average makes you even more responsible for your actions and the possiblity of hurting someone. In later life I have also used this size advantage.

Not to mention that the Pirellis are a good
Italian tire.

Well, it sounds like you're making your size work
for you. Especially the playground equipment part.

I miss being able to do that. My point was simply that size as an attribute of a predator can be a very bad thing, whereas size as an attribute of a sheepdog is a very good thing; and not everybody has figured out what they are yet—predator or sheepdog. For the undecided, they need to be aware of what their size does to other people, otherwise, it can come close to getting them shot, as it nearly did for the antagonist in the OP. That guy didn't sound so much like a predator as he did an ass, and it nearly got him badly hurt. I suspect that he too has learned to use his size to his advantage, and lacking the social graces, that advantage manifests itself in negative ways.
I would like to think that most members of this forum consider themselves to be sheepdogs to varying degrees. That might be limited to protecting family and other loved ones, or it might be expanded to include society at large. But either way, we're not
predators. Consequently, I would also like to think that those members of this forum who have size to their advantage use it judiciously,
for the right reasons, the same way we might carry and use a gun.
By the way, unless waist size is a qualifier, I'm not a member of the "big boys club."

Congrats on a good outcome. These incidents are very educational. Similar situation happened to me and the wife at Northpark, at get this...Christmas! I know. I havn't been to a mall during holidays in 25 years and it will be another 25 before I let the wife talk me into it again. Two cars both waiting on a parking spot at opposite ends of the row. I was there first. A car backs out so that I had the angle to take the spot and having been there first I did. Fellow in his BMW pulls forward behind me and gives me the riot act and then says, Man, you did this in front of my kids (3-4 in the car). I apologized, gave a quick version of how I saw it, apologized again, and wished him a Merry Christmas and the wife and I walked away. Then it struck me...will I hear the bullet or not? I wasn't CHL. Too many people and too much stress. I was lucky.
