While I admire her spunk and understand her frustrations, she was not very smart in her actions. Shoplifting is not something to get hurt over, especially for 3 cases of beer. Make sure they are not a threat and going to potentially injure someone in the act, and just be a good witness.

Maybe you all are failing to realize that these were the last cases of her favorite beer and she was having just that kind of day...
But seriously, like the majority here, I am not about to risk my life or risk having my baby grow up with out a dad because of some idiots stealing beer.

A few years back, my dear old stemother was injured by a falling item in a Wal-Mart in Nashville. They coerced her into signing a release before they would apply a bandage or call the paramedics. Sueing Wal-Mart (or the tobacco companies) is not a short term solution for relief.
Wal-Mart is the largest business in the universe. They can handle their own shoplifters.

Over lunch today, I was listening to Michael Garfield on AM 950 (Houston).
He was doing one of those "on air ads" about some Woodlands Tactical or something like that. Part of the ad was talking about getting your chl.
THEN he said, something to the point of she could have been in danger, but IF SHE HAD HER CHL, and I forget the rest of the quote, but basically saying she 'could have used it in that situation'
and I immediately said to my self "yes, and she would have gone to jail"
......
If any of you know whoever it is at Woodlands Tactical or whatever, they may want to educate Michael Garfield, as spewing out something like "be a vigilante with your CHL" - which is what I basically heard him say is not what a CHL is for and as he is spreading the ad for them, even though he is doing it ad-lib, some may take it that they are also stating to become a vigilante to..

This woman did the right thing for the right reasons. Her methods may be questioned but not her stance on the issue. The real question is why did none of the other nearby people jump in to help? Did she not yell thief? Or if she did, did the other shoppers just ignore the situation as most “worried about my own self preservation” people would.
Secondly, it’s not what was stolen but the fact a robbery occurred. To some people beer is dog gone important especially if it is MGD. In some households it is the main meal to be consumed with great gusto.

There was no robbery, just theft (shoplifting.) There was no threat of injury or to life, and since it was only theft in the daytime, she would not have been able to use a CHL to stop it. And, I don't care how important beer or any other minor property is (televisions, stereos, food, etc.) she put herself in danger when she tried to intervene as she did. Yelling, following to ge descriptions of them and vehicle, etc. would have been fine, but dancing on their car was way overboard.

You are possibly correct in stating that it was theft rather than robbery in the legal sense because the act of robbery is taking or attempting to take something of value by force or intimidation. I don’t know if someone was in fear.
I totally disagree with the rest of your position.

All Keith said was that she put herself in danger by doing what she did...that's pretty much a fact, I don't know that you can dispute that. Jumping on a car to prevent somebody from going somewhere is fool's errand. There's a lady in Manteca, CA that
could attest to that fact.

I put myself in danger everyday when I cross the street in down town Dallas.

...there was no danger to human life/health before she intervened to "express herself"...she escalated the situation foolishly and not only endangered herself, but anyone else on the parking lot, should they have peeled out to get this crazy woman off their car...we had a waitress at a restaurant near here jump on a car to try to stop a carful of "guests" from beating a restaurant bill...they peeled out...and she fell off and died...over a food bill...life is dangerous, common sense should be applied liberally...by those who have it, anyways...Keith B was spot on...in being legally correct and using common sense...
