I have a MAK-90 myself. Should I just grab my SA XD9 instead if facing an armed invader?

I've always wanted a shotgun. Remington 870.

Grab whatever you need to grab to deal with the problem at hand.

While the MAK-90 might stir more negative emotion than a .30-30, the time to think about that is definitely not while you're dealing with a bad guy.

The whole idea of stopping an illegal attack or attempted deadly crime is to use what is at hand. Afterall, it does not matter how you do it, what matters is that you "stop" the attack or problem as soon as possible. I would like to carry a long arm in the car, but I am a little to worried over weapon security and what condition it will be transported in ie...

1. In a weapons rack in the cab ready to go loaded with or without one in the chamber.

2. In a weapons case unloaded and locked up.

I figure that a .45 ACP will "get er done" with most deadly situations, but then of coarse we are not ones to predict the future and tell before hand just what problems will face daily. If that was true we would just stay home on the day we know that we will need a long arm to deal with the terrorist or super stupid crowd of heavily armed thugs.
I am not the first or the last...

Everyone should read the Gary Fadden story.

Edit to add: This was written by Massad Ayoob, for American Handgunner magazine. The typos and errors look to be the result of a poor scan job.

That is in fact the story of which I was thinking. Thanks for posting it. As TXI said, it's a great read.
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

Hot off the presses:

"Alleged home intruder killed after homeowner shoots him with AK-47

ATLAS TOWNSHIP, Mich. Prosecutors in Genesee County will evaluate whether to file charges after a man was fatally shot while allegedly terrorizing a couple in their home.

Police say a 51-year-old Sterling Heights man came to the Atlas Township home of his ex-wife last weekend. He reportedly sprayed the back of the home with bullets, threw a whiskey bottle through a window and broke into the home.

The homeowner then fatally shot the man with an A-K-47 assault rifle.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Department says the 9-1-1 tape recorded the caller saying he was going to have to shoot the man firing shots at the house.

A new law in Michigan allows homeowners to use deadly force in certain situations."

Loaded with talk about an 'assault rifle', even though it was only a semi-auto AR-15:
