DPMS +1. I have a cheaper model, paid around 700 with quad rails, red dot sights, and carry handle. Pretty dang accurate! Dust Cover and FA included. I'd say go for it!

Given two barrels of equal circumference, the shorter of the two will be the most accurate due to being marginally stiffer than the longer barrel. I love the 7.62 NATO/.308 Winchester cartridge and own two rifles in that chambering—a heavy barreled Remington 700 and a M1A Loaded. If I were on the market for another .308 right now, it would probably be some sort of AR10 variant.

I was looking at one of those DPMS rifles as well and finally gave in and purchased it a few days ago. This is my first AR and first rifle as well so hopefully it works out. Im sure ill do some modifications to it down the road but like you, it will be for plinking and SD. Let us know what you decide to do and goodluck.
