While I do say there is some great advice in the post, unless the OP purposely changed the location to try and hide where it occurred, I think this is a made up story.
I Googled Cynthia McKinney and Memphis as these are two of the names he lists in the story.

This is what I found http://pakconnects.blogspot.com/2011/07 ... -said.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (the site includes stories on radio controlled 911 airliners etc.)

He says she was a councilperson in Memphis, this lady was a congressperson from Atlanta. But appears to be the kind of person who would have done what he has stated. Her statement in this website was made from Iran. Nice place for a US congressman to visit and make statements like that. She apparently is so liberal the Democrats kicked her out. She was the Green Party candidate for President in 2008.

to clarify: i didn't change anything, save for two instances of foul language. this was an exact copy and paste from another forum, which was an exact copy and paste from another forum, etc...

i have no idea if this is true or not, it seems fairly 'fiction-esque' to me, but i digress. the point isn't the validity of the event, in my opinion, rather the discussions created regarding the individual actions that take place throughout the 'story.'

i thought it was a great read and forced me to think about a few things i hadn't previously considered. :anamatedbanana

Hmm, maybe Hemizygote lived in Memphis in 1998 (a little inside joke for the longtime members here on the forum.)

When I read this years back on gt it occurred in California if my memory serves me well. There is some additional info here but it is too similar to be a different situation.

It read like a made up story.

Sorry for the thread drift, but the above illustrates the challenges and difficulties of using Christian translations and interpretations of the Jewish texts. Some of what appears obvious in an English translation may often be much more nuanced. The stem of the word translated as "murder" (ratsach) applies only to illegal killing.

The 6th commandment is Exodus 20:13 which in Tanakh says "Lo Tirtzach" (it includes the stem but it is not ratsach as cited in the above links, I'm looking at it right now). "You shall not kill" is 'Lo taharog'. Reading directly from my Etz Hayim (which is Torah and commentary), "Lo Tirtzach" translates as "You shall not murder", but in this case 'bloodshed' includes embarrassing a fellow human being in public so that the blood drains from their face, not providing safety for travelers, and causing anyone the loss of his or her livelihood. "One may murder with the hand or with the tongue, by talebearing or by character assassination. One may murder also by carelessness, by indifference, by the failure to save human life when it is in your power to do so."

With regard to death penalty, in Second Temple times imposition of the death penalty was extremely rare and legally difficult to impose.

Holy cow, I hope I NEVER have to fire my weapon in defense of my or my families lives. And I'll never be lazy enough to leave my extra mag in the safe again.

it did imply Memphis, he just said the woman had a mouth LIKE McKinney...that's bad enough. Problem is Tenn alot like Texas, you've got big towns surrounded by small towns, so the papers might say that it happened in "Xtown", when it happened 2 miles from Memphis and we'd never find it.

I don't know any rabbis, so you get the clarifying question... Does that mean that I broke the 6th commandment when I was maybe 12 and locked the doctor out of his examining room and demanded to see his credentials before involuntarily allowing the nurse to give me my shot? Because I think my mom still gets a bit pale when that one comes up.

Yeah, but the Commercial Appeal would have picked up on it and Tennesee Court Records would show the case; neither of which has anything I can find.

Yeah, if the shooting occurred in Shelby County it would. Might be in another criminal court if it happened in a different district.

However, the Commercial Appeal (Memphis Newspaper) would more than likely have picked up on anything in Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi or Eastern Arkansas (West Memphis) and their archives didn't reveal anything with a pretty thorough search.

It feels made up to me also, but made up with the purpose of forcing people to think about things. Put yourself in the character's shoes and imagine every bit of it as it allegedly went down. One of the most important parts, for me, is having to think about the COM approach. The human body takes so long to shut down, unless something critical is blown out, that a couple of shots to the chest may not do the job (unless you are shooting something in .308, or 1 oz. slug). I decided, months ago, that the two to center mass followed up by one to the head would have to be the best way to go in most circumstances. I think there is a large enough body of evidence out there to support why someone might do so in self-defense.

RJ

The comments about .308 or 1 oz. slug were not intended to encompass every round that would probably drop an attacker like a sack of rocks. It was actually a light-hearted comment that I did not want to dignify with an emoticon.
