The Perfect 380 Ammo ???

I don't figure any round of any caliber would make a person I shot real happy with me; I knew a guy who took an empty .38 away from a guy and beat him with it, even though the 6th round went through the hand he was beating the guy with and the other 5 were in various parts of his torso.

In one of the gun rags back when the 9 mm vs. .38 spec debate was the hot thing there was an article which told of a guy who was shot 6 times and still crossed a street and almost killed the shooter by choking him. The gun used to shoot the guy was a .44 mag!

I think the idea was that there is no 100% effective cartridge, at least that can be carried in a handgun.

I would agree, it is all about hitting a vital area no matter the caliber. Of course, the large the round the better the chance to hit one of those areas. I remember reading (I cannot remember where) about someone shot in the heart with a large caliber round and living. Any gun is better than no gun so practice with what you carry and get good at using it.

How timely. I just picked up a Kahr P380. Neglected to take photos for a range report, but it ate a total of 175 rounds of Academy's Monarch brand (for practice) and Hornady Critical Defense (temporarily for SD) flawlessly. I'm not recommending the Hornady in .380 without more research, but the price was right for the Monarch range rounds.

I carry the CD ammo in my .357 snubbie, and the reports are all good from other sources. I am confident in it. I haven't bothered trying it in my 9mm or .45 pistols, but only because I'm already satisfied with the loads I carry.

I only carry Hornady Critical Defense in mine. The rubber nose forces maximum expansion. Yes, I know the 9mm is better than .380. .45 is even better, .50 better still..... There's always bigger. Know HOW to effectively shoot what you have and what you will carry.

Checked the prices? And 45 grain? Thats about the weight in a .22 isn't it? .380 is generally 85-95 grain. There is no "magic bullet" I'm afraid. Whatever caliber you use, practice shot placement. Hi,

Have you seen Extreme Shock EPR?

They are more expensive than the Hornady Critical Defense, but I think is excellent for .380.

Other brand I tested is Corbon DPX.

Both worked flawless in a Sig P238.
