Well, TAM, I suppose I'm in good company. I bought a Glock a couple of years ago, because the price was right, and I figured I should at least give the things an honest run, given that I've dismissed them as "toys" since they hit the market.

I hate to admit this, but since we're confessing...I didn't hate it. Never could really fall in love with it, but couldn't help appreciating it as a tool. I shot it some, and carried it some. I mostly used it as my "truck gun."

My daughter shot it some in IDPA matches, until she fell in love with an XD that had some custom grip work, so I traded it for the XD, and I figured that was the end of the Glock Saga for me.

I actually find that there's a missing spot in my "wardrobe" now. Go figure.

Worse yet, a few weeks ago the plunger tube broke free on my 1911, right in the middle of a match. A friend handed me a Glock, and I finished the match with it. I shot well, especially considering I'd never fired his gun before the buzzer went off...

That settled it. I've got to put another Glock in the lineup. I can't convince myself of the "perfection" thing, but I've come to the conclusion that a Glock is never the WRONG answer...like a Model 70, an 870, and a .357 revolver...not a perfect solution, but never WRONG...

I'm still a dyed-in-the-wool 1911 guy (and really, a disciple of JMB in general), but that darned Glock sorta grew on me in a benign way.

So...yes, we can quit any time we want to....and I'll be sniffing around for the right Glock trade for a while!

Funny - I bought a G23 probably 20 years ago, and it's been sitting in the safe for about that same length of time.

Not that I'm a 1911 guy, either; don't even own one.

But my carry has been a PPS, and an M&P. I think about selling the Glock from time to time, but it just seems wrong.

...yeah, I feel kinda guilty about selling one to my baby brother, too...

That Desantis holster was originally purchased for a H&K USP Compact .40 I used to own, which I sold to another member here a while back. I really liked that pistol, but I just didn't like the caliber that much. I've said this many times, but if it had been chambered in .45, I would have certainly kept it. OTH, selling it enabled me to buy my M&P45, which I like a lot, and which I would not have experienced without selling the H&K.

When I bought my M&P, I was looking for a double-stack polymer framed .45 at a price that I could afford. I liked the simplicity of the Glock, but the only Glock .45 I could get my hand around was the 36, and it was a low capacity single-stack. I liked the grip of the XD45 much better (the XDm hadn't come to market yet, even in 9mm, at the time), and I liked the trigger better than the Glock's. I was set to actually buy one, and the guy behind the counter said, "have you looked at the M&Ps yet?" With the smaller backstrap in place, the M&P provided a better fit in my hand, and a better trigger. I've been spoiled by 1911 triggers, and even though it isn't fair because a single action trigger with a crisp letoff just can't be matched by any striker fired pistol, I was really looking for something as close to that as I could get without having to do a bunch of customizing to get it.

I had two other criticisms about the Glock 21/30 which eliminated them for me also. One is the width of the slide.......1.27"......Not exactly svelte. The width of the M&P slide is 1.2"....not a lot smaller....but the top of the M&P slide curves off to the sides, so it doesn't present that dinner table of a top surface like the Glock 21/30 does. Those things are like aircraft carrier decks. Call me shallow, but I just can't get past it. The XD45 slide appears to be commensurate with the other two in width, but it is sculpted like the M&P's in such a way as to reduce the size of the top surface. Where the Glock and the M&P beat the XD was in the bore height relative to the hand, with the former two pistols putting the bore down nice and low. Where the M&P beat the Glock in that regard was in having a more prominent beavertail protectively overhanging the hand. I have somewhat fleshy hands, and the Glocks have a tendency to bite me if I'm not too careful, leaving bleeding twin tracks in my skin at the base of my thumb.

I understand that the Gen 4 Glocks address some of these grip issues by providing a grip size adjustment, and that's a point in their favor. OTH, if the beavertail is still insufficient to protecting my hand then it would be hard to justify buying one of the .45s for myself—even if the slide tops weren't so wide. I haven't shot any of the subcompact Glock models, but I've handled plenty of them, and the short grip length combined with a large grip circumference makes them a poor fit for my hands. About the only exception to that is the Glock 36, but it cheats because it's a single stack gun.

I actually do love the simplicity of the platform, but by not addressing some of these issues, Glock loses some market share. They're already huge in the market, for some very good reasons, but they could be "huger," if they paid just a bit more attention to the finer details. Other manufacturers deal with these things, and so they get the dollars of people like me.

All of the above complaints offered, the Glock 19 does fit my hand fairly well. It will still bite me if I'm not careful, but it seems an excellent pistol, and it carries very well. I already carry a diminutive 9mm (Kahr PM9), so although I prefer .45 ACP, and am comfortable with 9mm.........particularly if, like the G19, the pistol carries lots of them. I wouldn't mind having one of my own because..............well, because it is easier than having to say, "Honey, can I play with your gun today?"

If that's all that's holding you back, $30 can fix it.

(On a side note, I really wish some of those 3rd party Glock frame manufacturers would offer one that works with a G20/21 slide... The Timberwolf in particular looks interesting, but I'd want it in 10mm or .45ACP which are the only two calibers it won't work with.)

ya know I have a gen2 with the orig tupperwere. Its spent most of its life at the bed side because I know it will work if needed, however never been wild about it. I have a 26 wich I would not part with for anything. for me it just works better all the way around and is a keeper.

But seriously, you gotta give the Glock credit ... much easier to casually carry a Glock occassionally with (I'm assuming) little or no prior shooting practice with it (comparative to your prefered 1911s and M&P) than it is to casually carry a 1911. I finally have a 1911 now and I've only carried it once - it's plenty reliable so far and I shoot well with it, just a muscle memory thing - or more precisely my fear that my muscles won't remember to flip off that durn thumb safety

Anyway, takes a big man to admit such a thing. Kudos
