Best CHLs to Have for Reciprocity

I have a Texas residency and Texas DL and CCL.
Have family in Massachusetts.
Talked to a friend's cousin who is a Massachusetts instructor.
You go to Massachusetts, take the course, THEN apply to see if they
will issue a license!
Talk about backwards.

I am headed to New Hampshire to visit family, then up to Maine for a bow hunting trip. Will be there at the end of September- first of October. What process do I do to obtain license for each of these states? Thanks.

You could also do what I am "in process" of doing (have my Texas CHL and have applied for and waiting to receive the rest):

TEXAS = AL, AR, CO, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NM, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WV, WY (32 states)

FREE STATES = (AK, AZ, VT) (3 states) no CHL required

FLORIDA = (OH & WA) (2 states)

ARIZONA = (NV) (1 state)

NEW HAMPSHIRE (NH) (1 state) – only adds New Hampshire

CONNECTICUT (CT) (1 state) – only adds Connecticut

MAINE (ME) (1 state) - only adds Maine

This will give you concealed carry rights in 41 states. I suspect that Oregon will be added to the conceal carry list at some point as well once their legislature can come to a consesus on reciprocity rules. The nice thing about all of these (as well as the UT & VA non-resident CHL permits) is that you can acquire them all by mail (and a little money, paperwork and patience)!

Isn't that how it works in Texas if you don't live here? You have to come here to take the course. You have to pay DPS and submit the class form and fingerprints before they start the background check for the license.

You are correct! Also, Arkansas residents get 40 states carry rights without any additional licenses.

You are correct...the Utah non-resident license is without a doubt cheaper than the Florida non-resident license ($51 vs. $70) for the initial application, but the Florida permit is good for 7 years and the Utah permit is good for 5 years (so about a wash on an annualized basis). Also, the Utah training requirement to get the non-resident license is much stricter than Florida. Utah requires that to meet the training requirement, you must have taken a safety course by one of their state's approved instructors (which include many in TX), where as Florida will accept the TX certificate of training form (TX CHL-100).

Nope. Because a Utah non-resident renewal is only $15, so renewals cost $3 per year.. A Florida non-resident renewal fee is $112, or $16 per year.

I paid $60 for my Utah training back in the day. I see it going for $75-$100 now. So assume an original FL plus one renewal gives you 14 years for $224, or $16 per year. Of course, every year thereafter is also $16.

Original Utah ($51) plus two renewals ($15 ea) plus training ($100) gives you 15 years for about $181, or about $12 per year. Every year thereafter drops to $3 per year.

Of course, one "advantage" of a FL license is you can have a FL license even if you drop TX. Not sure why someone would want to do that, but life is full of choices.
