Re: Grapevine Shooting
One, there are no "nice parts of town"...just nicer parts of town (hopefully that makes sense). Two, the news media LOVES to report any violence or deaths through firearms; where are all the reports of all the people who lost their lives on Christmas by being stabbed, beaten, etc? Three, how many folks were needlessly murdered in New York City, Detroit, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, D.C., etc. yesterday? I'm still going to feel a LOT safer conducting business in Grapevine, Texas, than in any of those other cities with their excellent gun control schemes. Sorry to hear about folks in our "local area" being killed like that, sad indeed, but for this to make national news is just another example of subtle propaganda.

Re: Grapevine Shooting
7 people being killed in one house is not an everyday experience not even in NYC. It is worthy of national note. Just as an Automobile accident that was as tragic would be. This looks to me like a murder suicide, and these type of things don't have much to do with what neighborhood they lived in.

Yeah, police are saying murder-suicide. Not a lot you can do in these cases if someone just suddenly snaps. However, if you have one of those relatives or friends that you are concerned about, best to not invite them over or be on your toes at all times to make sure you can stop them. Unfortunately, I have personal experience in this matter.

Re: Grapevine Shooting
There haven't been any shootings but there is a DIL who is prone to "snap" all over everybody and a SIL who takes it and we decided to no longer participate. The juice just ain't worth the squeeze.Keith B wrote:Yeah, police are saying murder-suicide. Not a lot you can do in these cases if someone just suddenly snaps. Re: Grapevine Shooting
Just saw on the news that they think a family member showed up dressed as Santa and killed 6 family members before killing himself. Very sad, especially for the surviving family members not there.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Re: Grapevine Shooting
...this is a sad, tragic thing...and a reminder for all of us who carry to carry all the time...everywhere we can...and be alert and vigilant ALL OF THE TIME...if, God forbid, this had begun to happen yesterday at my family get-together(about 25), ONE person was armed...me...there are 4 others who weren't who possess licenses...but thought "nothing could possibly happen here"...there are two members of my family who were there yesterday that fit the "profile" and anyone reasonable would think they could snap at any minute...both of them know me well enough to know I'd have to be their first target...or I'd stop them...one male, one female... it's uncomfortable to think like this...but beats the discomfort of watching everyone you love gunned down one by one, by a stranger or a blood relative...

I don't know all the details but it seems to me that moving to a different neighborhood doesn't make the slightest difference in your risk of being murdered by a family member.

It does if moving means that you're no longer within "impulsive driving range" (or the other way around).tbrown wrote:I don't know all the details but it seems to me that moving to a different neighborhood doesn't make the slightest difference in your risk of being murdered by a family member.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

...I believe they'll find that this was not impulsive at all, but vindictively planned out to the last detail...time will tell...

Holidays and festivals where everyone else is happy is terrible for those who aren't feeling the joy. As a paramedic, I can tell you that the holidays are definitely times for a lot of violence - psychologists will tell you it's a time for the disenfranchised to feel even more so than normal.Oldgringo wrote:It seems that Christmas brings out the best and the worst in people. Re: Grapevine Shooting
Mom recently split from Dad (the Santa Claus shooter), and was celebrating Christmas with her brother, sister-in-law and all of both family's kids.
Note: at the time of this story, the Police and/or Medical Examiners haven't released the names of the victims, but the ever-enterprising media looked up property records to find neighbors who identified the victims for them. Gotta be first, no matter what, it seems. Names identified on the local TV stations, as well as the newspapers.

Re: Grapevine Shooting
Yep. God forbid they let compassion and decency get in the way of a scoop! So what if family members find out about the massacre on the evening news. As far as I'm concerned, "the public has a right to know" is right up there with "common sense gun laws" and "it's for the children."n5wd wrote:Mom recently split from Dad (the Santa Claus shooter), and was celebrating Christmas with her brother, sister-in-law and all of both family's kids.

Yeah, what's the freaking world coming to when you have to wear your gun on your belt while sitting around the Christmas tree opening presents with your family. Sheesh.
