I didn't request anything other than sights for a CZ 40-B, which they said they had in stock.
I handed it to them and put my trust in them to put the right sight on and this is what happened. Maybe they did accidentally put the wrong one on there.

Once I hear back from them I'll let y'all know what they say.

Depending on the force of the strike, the pencil just may hit the ceiling. If it barely jiggles in the barrel, then you can bet the f.p./striker didn't make sufficient contact to pop a cap.
I like to use a plastic BIC pen. No metal from the eraser.

Sorry, I misread your post. I thought that you said that "nobody makes sights for the CZ 40-B" and that you were trying something hoping that they would work.

It sounds like they installed something that they thought was "close enough" or "good enough" and it wasn't. Good luck and I will wait to hear what they say.

Yeah...I didn't notice this until I took the pics.
I'm going to give them a call on Monday and see what they have to say about fixing it.
Other than grinding down the sight or the hammer, I don't think you can "fix it." I wouldn't recommend either. I would buy a different brand/model of sight.
Problem is there isn't any other company out there that make sights for this pistol....CZ 40-B.
XS or nothing.
A guy on another forum suggested that I do nothing but call them to get them to fix it. He said that once I start jacking with it that that could shift the "blame" from them...to me.[/quote

I don't see a lot to agonize over here.

From the pics it looks like the removal of a very small amount of metal from the sight would fix the problem nicely. That should be well within the abilities of any competent gunsmith.

This option also follows the dictum to always modify the accessory, not the base gun.

That being said, a good 'smith should have seen the interference and fixed it before the gun left his shop, but mistakes are made even by good folks in every profession.

No, I'm suggesting MM218 show them the pencil in the barrel test as they obviously don't know about it..... :thumbs2:

Still, you paid them for a service, and they failed to perform to standard, so THEY should correct the issue.
:iagree:

It looks pretty obvious they didn't care enough to test if the gun worked after they put it back together. That's bad enough for a range gun but indefensible for a carry gun. Personally I'd use a Dremel myself before I let than shop touch my gun again.

"Gunsmith installation recommended some fitting may be necessary." That's why I do all my own sights and 99% of my own gun work. The only time it goes to a 'smith is if there is machining or high dollar tools involved. If you can repair an automobile you can repair a gun.

It looks like the sight is ever so slightly too long, a few strokes with a sharp file and a dab of cold bluing and you are good to go. I sure wouldn't take another gun to this shop.

More guns are ruined by Dremel tools than by rust. A file only takes a few minutes and is a lot safer.

Before anything is done, I would contact XS and send them your photos.

That should identify whether the problem is the part or the installation.

Well, obviously the sight is too long, and the second painful observation is that the guy that put it on is not "Truely" a gunsmith. I'd let the sight company see the pics and I would let the supposed "smith" know he sucks too and demand a refund. Then I would just fix it myself as stated above with a sharp file.

I had Novak send me a sight they had to specifically make for one of my 1911's. It was a tad off on the fit. I used some fine files and took my time. A few strokes with the file and then a fit check. Over and over for about 30 minutes before I had the perfect fit. I guess I could have used my Dremel and done it faster, however as stated above, many guns have been ruined that way. Slow and steady wins the race with parts fitting.

Bottom line, the sight is probably within tolerances, and the gunsmith (for lack of better word) sucks.

It's up to you how you handle it. The main thing I know is that if it is a weapon I am going to depend on, it is ultimately MY responsibility to KNOW it functions. Kind of like my profesional life dealing with boats and passenger safety etc. as we always say..."it is ultimately the Captain's responsibility". So, take charge and either do it yourself or MAKE them get it right. Accept no less.

Good luck and keep us posted. :patriot:

Did this yesterday and also mentioned how I brought it up when I at the shop as was told it would be ok.
Its only been one day but I haven't heard anything back just yet.
Will update and this progresses.

Did you contact the shop that did the install yet?

fI agree with this statement, everyone makes a mistake every now and then and before I judge the store / shop / person performing the service I normally give them an honest attempt at making it right. clearly they messed up but its how they act when your following up witht hem that will really show their character. :tiphat:
