Well, I'm not saying it didn't happen, but....................

I'll wait until it can be confirmed.

The Twitter post is from the official Twitter account of KEYE TV in Austin. I'd say that's as reliable a source as any news agency.

...yeah, really...maybe you want to go to the trouble to call the newsroom and point that out to them...I'm sure they'd like to hear it...

Which I can understand when it *DOESN'T OCCUR* in a public place like this. I mean, WOAI (San Antonio) reports them when they are in such a public manner (jumping off of highway overpass, suicide @ The Bullethole Range, etc.)

I didn't see an article on KEYE's website, but that doesn't mean much...sometimes these stations only post quips about a story and publish it as some "big" news.

I just know that with that kind of history, I'm not sure that is a place that I would want to go.

Offing oneself in a public setting strikes me as an extremely rude action garnered to gain attention.

Suicides at gun ranges are more common than you would think. I know personally of two gun range suicides within the past 4 years that never made the media.

That's terrible. I wonder if some folks don't have the means, and so the gun ranges provide rental guns they figure they can use.

...just called Red's in Pflugerville...asked Dale if it was true that they'd had a shooting there Monday night...he said that they won't comment on it at all...that we can believe whatever we want...not much of a denial...got to be bad for business...
...emails into KEYE TV as to why they never followed up on the twitter and KXAN as to the statement made by the newsroom person last night...still nothing found on the net in the way of a news story...the two twitter entries already linked show up today, though, on Google...

That sometimes happens, but the ones I am personally aware of were all committed with their own weapons. I think there are maybe two trains of twisted thought on the part of the individual committing suicide:
1. The family will not have to deal with the aftermath of the suicide in the home (i.e. investigation and cleanup.)
2. If I do this at the gun range, maybe it will be ruled a possible accident and in turn will be able to collect accidental death money on insurance for the beneficiary.

I do know of a couple of other deaths involving guns that were pretty well cut and dried suicides, but the individuals has their guns out like they were cleaning them.

I've heard the thing about suicides not generally being reported in the media because it has a tendency to encourage copycat suicides. Don't remember where I heard it from. :???:

I've heard the same thing. It's also not really news, is it? I suppose it is because it's a semi-public place but if he had shot himself in his own home intentionally, it definitely wouldn't have made the news. It's also really hard on the family, assuming there is one, of the victim to continuously see news coverage, etc.
