Which one are you reffering to ?

Springfield and STI have models that are at least partially made by Armscor in the Philippines. Others might as well.

I don't know that there is a "best" 1911 as that is a very competitive market segment with a lot of players. I personally own Colts and Kimbers and both very good. For me personally, if money was no object, my dream 1911 is a Wilson Combat. Maybe one day....

Another alternative is to look at the smaller custom shops as well - Bob Rodgers, Chuck Warner, Chuck Rogers, John Harrison, Ted Yost & Jason Burton, etc, etc...

^ This, and I am a huge fan of Chuck Rogers and Bob Rodgers. I dealt with both last year and they are fantastic.

If it's your first 1911, get a "cheaper" one: Taurus, RIA, etc. Don't do what I did: bought my "dream" gun and put an idiot scratch on it second time I cleaned it.

Like everything else, you're going to find different opinions based on personal experiences and preferences.

Bob puts up pix of some of his work on the 1911 forums. True art. And I'd give my firstborn to go to his pistolsmithing class.

+1 on the STI, especially if you want to go double stack. Even if you don't go STI I would strongly suggest series 70 and stay away from series 80 1911s.

series 80 has a secondary safety added into it, and 1) isn't the John Moses Browning design, and 2) adds complications

I had that happen at the range. I will stick to series 70, thank you.
