My personal view is if the school used the church portion, separate building or same, then it is a school. If there is a clear delineation, even if in the same building, between the school and church, then you should be able to carry in that portion of the building that is only the church and not the school.

On Parkland, it is really hard to tell. The actual accredited medical school is UT Southwestern, not Parkland. And, if you get right down to it, a Graduate student from UTSW may go to any hospital as part of the curriculum to learn. With Parkland, even though it is one place I think you NEED to carry, I would probably err on the side of caution and not chance it just due to the fact they are closely tied in with UTSW. If it was another hospital that was not part of the partnership, then maybe. Would be an individual look every time.

It's a different kind of safe based on the probability of needing the gun versus probability of being caught carrying someplace that will cost a lot of money to get a "not guilty" verdict.

And my point was that it's not a one-sided tradeoff. By his definition of "safest", you'd never carry anywhere.

If I'm in a federal building am I more likely to need to use my weapon in self defense or am I more likely to run into some hopped up on their own self opinion bureaucrat that would like nothing better than to ruin my life and send me to jail?

I'm going to guess the latter... so I will leave my pistol in the car when I visit this client in the future (or recommend that they come to my office where we have rifles on display just about every week).
