Having the satisfaction of building your own rifle, and i feel adding the camo is just finishing off the gun.
Sure enough. I will say, I would rather have a quality all black rife than a pretty one that shoots like doodies. Best of both worlds is what one should aim for, I suppose.
Just make sure you get scope rings high enough for the scope to sit over the IR laser on the upper rail of your quad-rail free float tube... I think that's really what we are all trying to say.

Honestly, if you want a quad rail hand-guard to bridge the gap between nothing and a serious setup with the intent to get things running, you cant miss with that UTG. I was taught a long time ago, you should go low or go high. If you cant afford the best, get what is cheapest (and satisfactory) until you can get the best. Only the medium buys give the least satisfaction, because you arn't quite there and still spent a hunk of money.

I have tried both the cheapest NCstar and a $300 Daniel Defense rail and honestly there was not a lick of difference in performance. A rail is a rail is a rail to me IME. The only advantage to the DD was it was extremely light (titanium). I would be more interested in spending money on better lights or optics than a highend rail. I have built dozens of ARs and used about every style of rail available and not one has failed to do its job well. I bought a similar rail from Sportsmans guide for $26, if you want to return that one. It is a drop in that is very sturdy in design.

Here is a pattern that I worked up. I liked it so much that I applied the same pattern to my 338.

It was simple. I used rust-o-lem (tan and dark brown) and some satin poly on top. I put down the tan first then mask it off with twine before putting down the brown.

Most people won't give it a second look if you paint the flash hider orange. Good urban camouflage.

If you like it, that's what's important. Even if it ends up looking like this.

That's a great paint job if you're looking to hide out in fantasy land.

Some Aervoe Paint.. 4 colors and some OD under it.. pine needles and mesh.. etc..
The Field Drab brown is even.. the flash messed it up and made it look dark in spots..
Ready for my TX trip..
