Costco sells solar powered motion lights with LED's. I have one for my side yard. Not as bright as a wired halogen, but enough to see someone is there. $60 each, and not too bad if you don't have power running nearby already.
For me, the reason is simple: my back hurts. Every day. Some days are more or less bearable, but others are truly bad.....and I depend on prescription pain killers nearly every day. So, I tend to disarm at home simply because it removes something that tends to exacerbate the pain. It doesn't seem to matter whether I am carrying IWB or OWB, or which manufacturer's holster I'm wearing. So when I remove the gun and holster, the pain tends to abate fairly quickly because the pressure against my side/back is relieved. This is a non-issue when I am pocket carrying, and often after returning home, I'll swap out a pocket gun for the holstered gun. But, I don't always do it, and I am confident that I can get to my gun if I need to.RHenriksen wrote:Personally, I don't understand disarming while at home. Once I put it on, it's on until I get into the shower or bed. Why leave yourself guessing where the nearest pistol is - if it's ALWAYS at 3:30, you never have to react with anything but instinct.
I'm not paranoid; just aware of my blonde roots! Rather keep things simple and consistent for my little brain.

Why limit it to the eaves? Mount them all along the perimeter as well, but don't arm those until the inner ones go off...TxSheepdog wrote:I want one of these. You can mount it upside down in the eaves...

The cursing and noise made from the bad guy trying to get away would give you plenty of warning...
