I was heading out to my vehicle, and one approached me.
Him: "Hey man, you like steaks?"
Me: "yes"
Him: "Could I interest you in a good deal?"
Me: "Nope"

Buying meat from a door to door salesman makes about as much sense as take out fondue in a basket!

One of my (now moved away) neighbor's brothers did the door to door meat thing for a bit. I tried about $20 worth of product, it was not to me liking.
Regarding Schwan's - they offer a quality product at a bit of what I would call a premium price. I do like the products and the service. I do not buy steaks from them but purchase meatloaf, pizzas, broccoli and cheease, shrimp, ice cream, etc. It has *all* been good, and the driver brings my Dane treats, hey, if the dog likes him, he's OK in my book!

tomtexan wrote:Just moments ago, these these two guys come by knocking on my front door and wanting to know if I want to buy some steaks. I live in a small town with a population just a little over 300 people. I am always on the defensive and a tad bit skeptical when someone I don't know arrives at my home knocking on the door. These same guys have been in the neighborhood before, several months ago, but I don't think they stopped at my residence at that time because I just so happened to be out in the yard at the time open carrying, which I sometimes do when I am on my own property. I have always been one to buy my meat at the grocery store and would never entertain the idea of buying off of one of these trucks that randomly cruise the hood trying to make a sale. I was really surprised that they even stopped at my house. I would have thought that they might remember the last time they were in the area. Obviously they didn't, or are just awfully brave. I recognized the young lad that was at the door as being the same one I saw last time. He even mentioned that the last time they were in this town that my neighbor had bought some items from them, which I remember eye-witnessing as I went about my business in my own yard. I greeted him at the door with handgun in hand, hiding it behind the door. He never knew it, but nonetheless I was prepared as I always am when some uninvited person comes around. I'm sure others here on the forum have encountered meat sales people in the past. Do you folks ever buy from them? Just curious.
I feel you pain. I live on a corner lot in my subdivision and I get these yahoo's at my house all the time. Steaks, magazines, missionaries, tree trimmers, power washers, the list goes on and on. The only ones I don't get, and the only ones I would probably buy from are the kids trying to sell stuff. But I guess most organizations now a days don't want their kids going door to door. Too bad too; because I sold enough useless crap door to door when I was a kid that I feel almost obligated to buy from them as a payback to all the people that bought my useless junk.

I've had one stop in front of my house as I was getting home from work. Wasn't taking no for an answer. Asked for his permit, he said he didn't need one. I said you sure do, now bye bye. Called the Police, they came out and found him. They also called the health inspector to check their product and to see if they had a city health permit deal.
I'll never buy my meat from a truck. Store's only for me.

My mother was living alone and was more demented than I realized. The crowning blow that caused me to enroll her in an assisted living place was when I saw evidence that she had paid $100 at the door for $10 worth of meat and $1,000 for a vacuum cleaner that was sold at the door and probably worth $200.
