This is one of those "test case" senarios...
Even thought the posting is clearly non-30.06 compliant for many reasons, like the ownership and management of the facility is a governmental agency, in which that issue was resolved (reluctantly for some) with SB501 (2005)...
I also believe that even if you are discovered to be carrying in that event and facility, that nothing more, that you would be asked to leave, would probably be the only in-polite thing the organizers would ask of you...
But, knowing how the City of Houston and Harris County really are...You'll take a ride...And you'll pay for it...
[sarcasm]So remember...We are only about 2% of the entire population of the state of Texas...[/sarcasm]

I think I would carry unless they have metal detectors at the door or people that are frisking everyone who wants to come in
Hey Mithras61,
That is what I check for after I saw the sign. I was not going to try to prove a point to organisers. But since nobody was doing none of the above and the sign wasn't legit, then I was not going to hike all the way across the parking lot to my car.

That was MY thought. It isn't 30.06 compliant signage, so it is meaningless as far as CHL goes. With no frisking & no metal detectors, I just wouldn't call it to their attention.

Well i went to the car show today and I took my gun. Several people with me also carryied and one of the ladies was asked if they could look in her purse which was carrying her pistol and the officer[HPD]either saw it and didnt say anything or missed it, but I dont see how as she has a stainless lady colt in a holster velcroed to the inside of her purse. And the signage is at least 15 feet off the ground.

One course of action would be to wait until the next gun show and then call 911 and tell the nice operator that someone had a gun there in violation of the "policy". Or you could go to the County Commissioners Court and tell them they need to update their signs, since they are out of date and not enforceable and may cost the county $$$$ when someone is illegally arrested <qv, SONIC and HPD tresspassing arrests>

When I see non-compliant signs I simply ignore them - they have no legal standing. Bring them to the attention of the owner or manager and he MAY decide to replace it with a compliant sign, or give YOU, PERSONALLY verbal notice that you can't carry inside.
If they have searches or metal detectors, then you may end up receiving verbal notice that concealed carry is not permitted - that would have legal standing and my understanding is that compliance with the law would require your immediate departure.
When given a reasonable choice, I do NOT go places where I'm searched. Airports and the courthouse (summoned to jury duty) were the only places I've gone through metal detectors & security screenings for at least 20 years.

Heck, I saw a too-small (8.5x11) 30.06 sign on my child's grade school this afternoon. In chatting with them, they said District security told everyone to print them out and put them on the doors. I pointed out how they didn't need the signs and that if they did, those signs would have no effect.
And the funny thing? I didn't have my DL to use as ID to pick up my kids, so I had to use....you guessed it....my CHL!

nicely done.
glad you got them to realize the uselessness of a 3 double-O 6 sign at a school.
be nice if we could get Austin to realize the absurdity of banning CHL's at school, anyway....

Bought my ticket and sprinted in .......then sat my rear in all the leather car seats.
That's exactly what I did last night.
There was no security checkpoint at this event. Just someone collecting tickets.
