It's not a matter of how far I have to drive -- I've taught classes on a regular basis in Roanoke. (Up at 6, to leave by 7, to get there by 8, to start at 9. Get back home around 11 or later.) Its how far the students have to drive back and forth to qualify. I fear that the rep would be, "great class, but we spent half the day going back and forth to the range".

If me, I wouldn't need the ENTIRE range, only a handfull of lanes, and probably less than two hours. I'd be willing to pay a reasonable amount. You offering?
We have a private range and don't allow strangers to shoot there, but that's not the point.
My question was directed at the OP but applies to others. If I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount to use the asset (reasonable as defined by the owner) they're more likely to go for it. If my offer is not worth their while, they're not likely to accept it. That's not limited to the shooting sports. If I want to have a private party in a restaurant, I will probably have to offer appreciably more than they would ordinarily make from that space. (Assuming I'm not family or a very close friend.) Another alternative is to offer to rent it when they're not usually open to the public, but even then it needs to be worthwhile for them financially because they're a for-profit business.

The shooting ranges in South Houston are a lot better than the ones up North. I'm blessed to have one less than 2 miles from where I teach and they are reasonable and friendly as long as you give them a heads up.

Sounds like maybe there are more ranges in your area, making them hungrier, and therefore more cooperative.
