Anticipating noise and recoil induces Flinching. It's a natural reaction but for some women (and men) it can be difficult to over come. This problem is often compounded by the people shooting next to you with large caliber guns. The range at Red's (south) is too small and cramp for my liking. Red's north is much larger and nicer. Better yet, find an outdoor range. Red's does have a "Ladies' Day" where range fees are $7.50/hr and all rental guns are free. This way your wife could try out different handguns.

Another recommendation for outdoor ranges, much less noisy.

I just got remarried a few years ago, my first wife lost my paper work twice so at this time it had been over 3 years since I had my permit. I drive a truck for a living so I was never home. My new wife , at the last minute wanted to take the class with me. At this time I didn't own a semi-auto at all. My chl instructer wants everyone to qualify with a semi-auto so that they can carry what ever they want. She had not shot a pistol since she was a kid and not much then. With a little range talk she shot a 1911 .45 and qualified first time out. She has very tiny hands.The moral of the story that if she hasn't shot much she will be easier to teach, no bad habits to overcome. I didn't get the chance to teach her before the class but if I had a .22 would had been what I started her on. Happy shooting.
