What all comes with the kit? What would it take to have it completed and made into a rifle?

He bought his in 2003.
I found one for $230 here:

If you're not already set up to put together AKs, press rivets etc you're better off just buying a complete rifle.
My .02 anyway.

Went ahead and put a deposit on one at Bud's, since they have a no-charge layaway and I still get the cash discount price. That way, I can have them hold it for now and get it shipped after I get back from annual training. I'm excited. This will be my first AK!

And you should be able to find a 'build party' somewhere. Then you don't have to buy all the rivet jigs and press. Good way to learn the AK platform. I'm halftway thinking of building an AMD as another 'project'. It's enjoyable and challenging.

XinTX,
It sounds like you have built one before. Maybe in a few months, if I like my first one and decide to build a second, we could get together and you could show me the ropes? I'm not all that far from you.

Wouldn't say I'm 'experienced'. Just done one build. And I don't have all the tools, but know someone who does.

Question: on the AMD65 can you install a more solid folding stock from arsenal or another manufacturer? Is the tang already been removed and does the wire stock mount the same as every other flush folding stock?

My one warning about using an AMD for home defense: That muzzle brake is
LOUD. Its the loudest AK I have. I won't shoot it at indoor ranges anymore, out of respect for the people forced to share the range with me.
As I recall, there was a guy with a Mosin Nagant next to us when we shot, so two AKs and a Nagant in an indoor range. Good times

Budsgunshop.com has them for $439 free shipping right now which is the same for what I paid 6 months ago. It's a fun toy and you will deffinitely get some gawkers at the range when you fire this dragon, especially if you have some brass cased 762 for an indoor range. I like mine alot, it's fun, LOUD and breaths FIRE!

AMDs are very well built AKs, they are just a little weird looking, and I personally don't care for the exposed third degree burn waiting to happen gas tube. But others love them.
There is no reason one could not be built on a fixed stock AKMS recevier, or a different type of folder.
Unless you go the pistol or Form 1 SBR route you well need to have a muzzle device welded or silver soldered to the barrel to increase the length to greater than 16 inches.
Mine will be built as a pistol, and then later I will replace the rear trunnion to allow for a stock, if I decide to SBR it.

From a little research, it appears to be really easy to mod a standard gas tube to fit an AMD, and thus allow you to use regular upper handguards. So now that's my plan.

A few posts up from you someone said Buds Gunshop has them for $439 right now with free shipping. If that is one of the TGI builds, its not a bad price at all.
