If Obama were to buy a gun, could he check both "black" and "white"? Cause they don't have a box for "democrat".

That box would be 11f, the one about being mentally defective.

And speaking of nationally divisive.... I kid you not, I just now saw a TV ad on the local Fox affilate for a new dating website: BlackPeopleMeet.com. Their tagline is "This is how black people meet." Other dating websites show single race couples, mixed race couples, etc., etc.
You know that if someone published WhitePeopleMeet.com, NAACP would be all over that and the halls of Congress would be echoing outrage.

I'm 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Polish, 1/4 Italian, and 1/4 Korean.
Does that make me Asian? But I'm only 1/4 Asian, so am I White?
Why can't I just be American?
Did you have a blood test to figure that out or are you just guessing?

Although I'm sure one can say this is a result of Fast and Furious. I work in a business where our forms are being modified in the same manner. It is mandated to do this to align all our documents with how the census is conducted.

No more than the race question in general, unless the answer is Human.

"Minority" isn't a mathematical term anymore.

As far as I know all "federal and state" forms now have ethnicity and race questions. It is very confusing for some people. Used to be hispanic was under race, but now it is separated out and all the races are either "hispanic or non-hispanic". Don't konw what this is supposed to do for census info, but figure someone's brother in law got paid to design new forms, and then someone's cousin for printing them....
The demographic pages for hospitals and public schools now have this type of ethnicity question.

I like nachos and tacos, and my grandmother is Castillian Spanish, so I guess I'm hispanic from now on
Remember: It's not illegal if they can't prove otherwise

On my father's side, my grandfather was 100% Irish and my grandmother 100% Polish.
On my mother's side, my grandfather was 100% Italian and my grandmother 100% Korean.
That makes my dad 1/2 Irish and 1/2 Polish, and my mother 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Korean.
That makes me 1/4 of each. No guesswork involved. Just simple math.
That must be the Korean part of me.

I wish my math was that simple.
My maternal grandmother was Scotch, Irish, and English and as yet we haven't established portions. My maternal grandfather is one of the sticking points, we don't know (for sure) which of several wives of my great-grandfather was his mother, and the most likely just became less likely, and we have no idea of the ethnicity of the new lead candidate. The prior was 1/4 white, 1/4 black, and 1/2 Cherokee.
My paternal lineage is easier to establish thanks to my seventh great grand and his wife and most of their children being wiped out by the Abnaqui July 27, 1694. I am descended from the only male survivor. My paternal grandmother was born in Santa Fe in 1879, which would put her lineage in question except for the fact that her father was career US Army and of English stock.
So the math has a lot of variables.

Since we're sharing:
As far as actual blood goes, I probably have a little bit of everything since my family has been here long enough to marry a bit of everyone.
My dad's side of the family came over from West Germany in 1738, and lived in Philadelphia before moving to Rowan County in North Carolina. The story goes that his son (born in Germany, came across with his family) was a wagon maker and built/repaired wagons for the Revolutionary Army. Not glamorous, but I use it as an excuse for why I'm such a gear head/car nut.
My mom's side of the family came over from Germany in the 1920s.
I'm sure there was some intermarrying along the way, so theres probably some English, Irish, French, who knows what else in there as well.
But I claim my heritage as German if anyone asks.
