The campus police here in College Station have similar recommendations ( http://www.tamu.edu/emergency/procedures/shooter.html ) and links to similar videos for students or staff (you have to have a campus ID to view the videos). However, in these university videos, the "fight" scene when a shooter enters a room of folks is a lot less violent looking on the part of the defenders -- like, he's got an AK-47 and they've got chalk erasers -- truly scary. At least this Houston video had two fellas aggressively swinging a chair or fire extinguisher.

I am kind of shocked that this was produced by the City of Houston with funding from Homeland Security. Maybe there is some hope yet.

It's no coincidence. Active shooters may be crazy or fanatics but that doesn't mean they're stupid. Choosing "gun free" zones helps them murder more innocent people before being stopped.

This one is very similar to one we reviewed for my work place.

I was very pleased to see the fight part and how they offered suggestions on how to do so.

I fear that some execs will probably not like the fight part and want to edit it out...

What about the short barrel shotgun, an NFA weapon.

Why was the security guard (cop) mingling with the staff instead of paying attention to his surroundings? I get it, he works at a posted 30.06 zone and that means no one carries but him.

A much better way to use the fire extinguisher is to discharge it at the BG as he comes in.

I work for a tamu "satellite" school or whatever you call it. They had very similar training recently for members of staff. Hiding and alerting other staff was high on the list of things they recommended. It's a joke.

I like how the last option is "fight". Hey...if that building didn't disarm the law abiding citizens, "fight" would be the FIRST option, and probably save the most lives.

Even more ironic was the narrator's comment a few seconds later telling people they need to always be prepared. Really? Be prepared, but take away the best tool I have for such a situation?! Ironic is an understatement.

I looked close at that :59 mark moment and the 30.06 sign was purposely edited in. You see as the door is shutting the camera is at waist height, when the door shuts it is at knee level. I also noticed above the 30.06 wording a gunbuster logo along with the smokebuster logo. So, at least the editor of the film appears to be aware of the no gun issue even if the rest of the film seems to be a little nonsensical. After all, do we really need a documentary to tell people to run and hide? Doesn't everyone do that already, or is there evidence of people running around in plain sight?

Yes there is evedence of running wildly, screaming, crying, freezing on the spot - - - these are the responses the average person has in a crisis situation. Run and hide is not in a sheep's repertoire. They run wildly and bleat loudly and stay in the open when the predator is upon them.

I think what you are seeing is various camera angles, and not a postproduction edit. That was filmed at a city owned building, and even though technically it cannot be posted, it definitely is. Most of the city and county buildings are posted. I believe it is because they are just covering themselves for when there happens to be the site of a governmental meeting.
Yes, it should be the meeting room itself that is posted, but this is the city we are talking about. They are not the sharpest tools in the drawer.
