I posted my reply at Zumbo's blog . . . and I managed to avoid some much-deserved profanity, (especially since the Brady bunch have already picked it up) but I still needed to vent:
Mr. Zumbo:

Your first column, written from the heart, appeared sincere. Unfortunately, it smacks of the same elitism that makes some skeet shooters look down their noses at people who use semi-auto or pump shotguns, or bullseye target shooters who view the "practical" shooting sports with disdain.

Your subsequent apology reeks of insincerity, and certainly would NOT have been written had your first column not touched off such an unanticipated firestorm of criticism.

Perhaps, by your future actions, I will FORGIVE you . . . but I most assuredly will not FORGET what you wrote.

In fact, I'll keep it in mind should I see your name associated in the future with products or publications I might consider buying - it WILL factor into my purchasing decisions.

Well, a lot of the cube rats won't be at work today, but many will. So, Zumbo still has today and tomorrow to get New floods of mail.

Remington has a notice on it's website that they are dropping support for Zumbo and his website.

They will make a formal announcement today at 12:00 on their web site.

Stay tuned, this is going to be interesting.

Beat me to it.

"NOTICE: Remington is in the process of severing our sponsorships with Mr. Zumbo. Remington in no way shares or advocates any of the comments made by Mr. Zumbo on his blog site. A formal announcement will be released by noon today."

Of course I have to wonder if it's absolutely true or if someone hacked their site.

Looks like Outdoor life magazine will be losing a lot of business.

I believe it was a colossal mistake for Zumbo to make the comments he made. I am also personally upset over his comments. It is also great to have a place to vent our feelings about this issue. However, in posting your responses, please don’t forget the Forum guidelines. As emotional as this topic is, it neither justifies the suspension of our posting guidelines nor our well earned reputation for civility.

From Remington: http://www.remington.com/library/press/2007/2007-1.asp

Madison, North Carolina – As a result of comments made by Mr. Jim Zumbo in recent postings on his blog site, Remington Arms Company, Inc., has severed all sponsorship ties with Mr. Zumbo effective immediately. While Mr. Zumbo is entitled to his opinions and has the constitutional right to freely express those options, these comments are solely his, and do not reflect the views of Remington.

“Remington has spent tens of millions of dollars defending our Second Amendment rights to privately own and possess firearms and we will continue to vigorously fight to protect these rights, commented Tommy Millner, Remington’s CEO and President. “As hunters and shooters of all interest levels, we should strive to utilize this unfortunate occurrence to unite as a whole in support of our Second Amendment rights.

We regret having to terminate our long-standing relationship with Mr. Zumbo, who is a well-respected writer and life-long hunter.

It's sad we not only have to struggle against the prejudices of the antigun extemists but also the lukewarm gun owners who think it's OK to ban some semiauto rifles or restrict law abiding people from carrying guns or have magazine limits etc.

The truly sad thing is this thread had been dead for over 2 years.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Even worse, I read through about half of it, wondering why that idiot didn't learn the first time, then finally realized those were 7s in the year, not 9s.
