I really believe these incidents are not from the gun hitting the ground. They are from the finger hitting the trigger as the gun is grabbed for. In cases where the gun is going off in a pocket or purse, I believe there was something in the pocket or purse that pulled the trigger. It would be a rare person indeed who said... I grabbed for the gun and pulled the trigger. That would put the offender in a guilty position. It is far safer to do the human nature thing and pretend the gun did it all by itself. It is funny how these stories always seem to involve an unholstered weapon.
