This is a liaision from the department to other government entities as well as with individual volunteer agencies and the various utilities. In other words I'll be a part of the command staff during an Incident Command Event, not one of the grunts.

But, it will require a TCLOSE (did I get that right TXI?) and (I guess) it will eventually be a commissioned LEO, but not required to be hired... just within the first 12 months of hire, along with various FEMA certs (of which I already have 2) and a few other things... such as a nuclear endorcement and an FCC Amateur license. Of course, I already have the radio license.

This is something that I've been doing since 1992, but not getting paid for it. Hopefully, now I will.

Russ, I believe that they are holding interviews for trooper-trainees at the Garland Regional Office on Thursday. If you are interested in a Communications position, that is a separate interview board and not one being held on Thursday. (Call 214-861-2045 to apply) Likewise for GDEM positions - separate board.

A TCLEOSE Basic Telecommunicator license is required to be obtained within 12 months of employment as a Police Communications Operator. However, this license does not lead to a Commissioned position.

Thank you for the input however this is in Mineral Wells, not Garland. Ms. Hildreth (sp) said there will be three troopers in the room and that it should take approx 30~45 minutes. This is the board for the communications.

I actually applied for, and want this, and in the second face to face (when I took my additional paperwork back) with Ms. Hildreth (sp) she suggested that I try for this second postion... the Liaision position with the GDEM, in addition to the Communications position.

So, here we go!

Thanks to all,
Russ

The Communications board is tomorrow.

As Fort Worth is in DPS Region One I was assuming you had applied within Region One.

Today is the day. Good Luck.

Well,

I got there at 9:50 and went in and asked for Ms. Hildreth (sp).

Went in the room,

Answered a few questions...
Do you know what the job entails?
What makes you the best candidate for the job?
Will you move?
Do you have a problem shooting a gun... Oh, you have a CHL... never mind.

and...

What is more important: Honesty or integrity?

10:05 they were thanking me for comming down and that they would have Ms. Hildreth contact me with the results.

any one have an opinion... is that good or bad?

I am hoping for good, for you, but it does make you feel kind of "Is that all there is?" doesn't it?

When I tested for the Frisco TX PD a couple of years back, my interview went similarly.

Them "I see you have a CHL?"
Me "Yup!" (I started to wonder if they were going to ask me why and decided I was not really well prepared to answer that question)
Them "And you work for TSA?"
Me "Yup!"
Them "Have you done (LEO) work before?"
Me "I was a Park Patrolman in the New York State Park Police years ago."

And nothing much more significant for about five minutes.

Then "Thank you very much, we'll be in touch."

And then weeks of waiting, and just after I started physical therapy for my injured (on the job) and recently "surgeried" shoulder, they call and ask if I can take the physical test next week.

Almost the same scenario with ICE, they even wanted to know when I would be better enough to take the physical (which I am not even today.)

In each case I expected the interview to be much more formal, but Frisco PD held theirs in a high school and it was very "off the cuff" and ICE was after the test in San 'Tone, just kind of off in a corner of the big room.

Anyway - Good Luck.
