The Gold Dot short barrel ammo is optimized for short barrels they are loaded with a powder that has less flash. You're not going to get 1300-1400 feet per second in a 2" barrel out of full power .357 magnum loads. A lot of the power of the .357 magnum is wasted in the fireball. Cor Bon DPX is loaded for use in short barrels and is manageable. I carry a .38 Special and find some +P loads to be excessive for a 17 oz. gun. Another good load for the .357 snub nose is the Remington Golden Saber it's a medium velocity load that has a good reputation. YMMV

I think I'll try the Hornady critical defense and the golden sabers. The golden sabers are currently what's riding along in my 1911s.

This
The SB ammo is loaded with a faster burning powder matched to the bullet weight to allow complete powder burn within the length of the shorter barrels. The mfg won't disclose the powder mix....if they did, they'd have to kill you

I believe the Speer Short Barrel ammo actually uses different bullets as well:

they have different product numbers than the 'regular' GD:

Well, going to try a range trip tomorrow. Going to bring a pile of different types of ammo, a few targets, & the chrono, and find out what's best with the LCR357. Hope my hand.... and chrono.... survives!
