His mention of "Mumbai-style attacks" is exactly what I think might hit us. Much cheaper and easier for AQ to arrange that than some other "spectacular" attack.
Cheaper, easier and no less effective. A handfull of jihadis, some rifles and grenades. Simple. If you read reports of the Mumbai attacks they were far from random and had very precise centralized control. The attacks were intricately planned. They utilized cell phones, the web and a control center to monitor police activity (and shift away), during the attacks as well as to identify specific key targets, etc. That allowed a relatively small group (around 10 men) to hold a potion of the largest city in India hostage for close to four days. Oh, and they were also reported to be state sponsored...
Clark, I agree with you there is a good chance we might see something similar on US soil (and I pray there will not be). The reference to a "night of 1000 jackals" resonates with me.

With a porous southern border, the likely quantity of enemy combatants entering this country ..... makes me shudder.
Seriously.... Honestly... If you were Iran or ALQ, what's the easiest, cheapest way to attack America? Send some BG's into Mexico, sneak across the border and have them lie in wait for a prearranged signal to wreak havoc. Even if "wreaking havoc" was not your primary goal, it would, almost to a 100% certainty (in my opinion) be part of the overall plan. It's just too easy, so why not.?

Everybody remains so steadfastly focused upon the US/ Mexico border they forget about the one to the north. You know, the longest border between two countries on the entire earth? There is around 5,500 miles of largely unprotected border shared with a country with abyssmal immigration laws and an already well established muslim community. There is a large chance we have those who would wish us harm flooding in from both the north and the south.
I honestly believe that law enforcement has done a good job thus far (post 9/11) in detecting some of these cells. I find it hard to believe we have just been lucky for this long. I also struggle with the concept that ALL of these cells would be so disciplined they could just wait patiently for their green light if they already had the training and and capability/ equipment to act. Regardless, there is no way we have detected them all.

It's too cold up there for Middle-Easterners... They would definitely choose the Southern border.
[just a bit of levity, this thread is a bit depressing]
