Although I am in full agreement with you it does not negate the fact the the intruder knows exactly where you are and a simple point and click can very well put one in harms way. I have yet to see a light that was commercially available that could totally disorient me to the point where I could not react, maybe not accuratly but even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
Good discussion, I enjoy reading everybodys opinions and reasons for what they deem as necessary for their given situations.....

I am not a photographer. LoL. I took these pics with my iPhone 5, no special features, no settings. I just used the backdrop and shadows created by natural light to take them.
Thanks everyone for all the responses re: Talon Rubber Grip. I'm clearly behind that I haven't heard of them. I'll keep my eyes out at the range and if I'm able to try one out and like it, I'll certainly be picking some up. I've never done any sort of special grip on any firearm.

Lights are bullet magnets.
Why do you think the military stresses light discipline at night? Any light you turn on gives your position away. I prefer the old FBI method of shooting with a light. Hold your light high and away from your body (about 45 degrees) and operate the gun one handed. By doing this the BG is shooting at your hand rather than your head.

Military battlefields are different than civilians streets and houses. If you see my flash lights, smile bullets are flying your way. When you are securing a place at night , then don your night goggles.

I was military--I learned the light technique I use in the military. I had a light on my AR rails. There is a time & place for everything.
The difference between having a light on your rail & holding it in your hand 18 inches away from your body is...negligible. Like you said, to each his own. My technique has been battle proven, I've used it, I trust it.

At home, well placed remote controlled lights can give you a big tactical advantage. On the street, you're stuck with what's in the environment plus what you carry. I have a bright 2x123 LED light clipped in my pocket and I'm thinking of adding a small rail mounted light if they get small enough. On a handgun, I don't need a super bright mounted light, only enough to see the target at handgun distances. The handheld light needs to be bright for searching and other things I wouldn't do with a light that requires me to point a gun to use it.

Coincidently, I just mounted new TLR-4 on XD-9M3.8" about 30 minutes ago. Picked it up today at Lewswisville show as replacement for prior one a few weeks ago where the entire batch had problems with adjustment screws. That set-up is, for me anyway, is by no means for EDC, but for some very specialized circumstances (which I hope does not happen).
